Making people and ideas findable

When is it time to say "goodbye" to your furniture?

Most of us, including myself, hang on to things just because it "still works" or "it's not broken". Now, I'll give you a small break on some of this, but you need to determine when it's time to say goodbye to certain pieces of furniture. This applies to both your home and your office!

1. When you leave your office with pain in your arm, neck, or have a headache almost every day.
This is a sign that either your chair is bad, or you need to adjust your personal work surface.
Let's tackle the first one. If your chair is uncomfortable, doesn't adjust properly, and has zero support, this could be an underlying reason for your aches and pains! If you cannot sit comfortably for 8 hours a day or adjust the chair to fit your body personally, of course you will have problems! Zero support on our lumbar can also cause problems. Take a look at your current chair and check to see if you have a chair that really fits Your body. Sometimes we sit in a chair for so long, we don't notice that the chair doesn't say, lift properly anymore. Really check your chair!
The second possible reason, your workspace. Do your feet sit flat on the floor? Are your wrists angled downward instead of up? Are you squinting to see your screen? And these are just a few issues! BE AWARE OF YOUR SPACE!

2. Your client's come in and wrinkle their nose at your office.
Now, chances are, you are not going to see this happen! But check their demeanor and meet them outside your office at some point to see if there is a change in how they act toward you. If there is, and you know your office looks like a tornado hit it and stuff is piled everywhere, you might want to fit it. Believe it or not, Appearances ARE Everything!! We don't always get that second chance with clients! If you have a home office, get rid of the kid's toys and laundry basket!!

3. You lean on your desk and it falls to the ground. (or you plop on your sofa and you're sucked in to the black hole of cushions!)
This one is a little bit more obvious! Check your desks and workstations! Scratches and dirt are easily repaired and cleaned, but a desk supported upright by phone books, now this is a pretty good reason to search out a new desk!

These are just a few tips to help make your work area more productive for you and even your employees! If you find that your company has quite a few worker's compensation claims, check into how your employees are using their work area. Sometimes, spending $250 - $500 on a chair (depending on you and your company), can end up saving you thousands or even millions of dollars! If this amount seems large and you say, "I'll just go to the Depot and buy one for $100", remember, you get what you pay for! Chances are, there's a reason its cheap furniture!

Instead, stop by Fineline Furniture on the NW side of Indianapolis. We can outfit you and your business with beautiful and quality furniture that will last you years longer than the chain stores! You can select your own laminates, veneers, and fabrics! And if you are in to being GREEN, we offer new furniture (95% of our lines are environmentally friendly), as well as used and refurbished furniture (Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse).
