Making people and ideas findable

Jon D. Speer

To access the company directory, please enter the first few letters of the person's first name

I have a BlackBerry. More times than not, it's a very convenient tool. But I do have an issue where you might be able to help. Sometimes when making calls, I get the automated company directory. The recorded voice prompts me to enter the first few letters of a person's name. However, BlackBerrys do not list the letters that correspond to each number. I usually guess and guess wrong.

But it's so cute to have a phone number that spells a word!

Two suggestions:
1. Don't call them-find another company that respects modern technology.
2. Save their number in your phone after looking up the digits from your land line phone.

I also get pretty irritated when businesses will advertise on vehicles or billboards with 1-800-mybusiness. I can't call you! And... If you don't have a website, I can't check you out on my mobile browser. I'm amazed at the number of businesses that have this big flub...

I miss the days when a person answered the phone and could help.

I just had this same conversation with someone the other day. I'd guessed correctly and now memorized *D and *T so I can delete my VMs and transfer to another number. Other than than, I'm toast! It's times like this I say "I don't think we've thought this cunning plan all the way through!'
