Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Pat Coyle

Set your own ticket price for Bigger Ideas!

Set your own price for Bigger Ideas
Smaller Indiana, Bigger Ideas promises to be a very special event. Already we have nearly 100 people registered, many of whom are well known CEO's and Presidents of local organizations.

Yet even with solid demand for Bigger Ideas tickets, we've also received dozens of requests for scholarships and discounts...it seems this economy is making it tough for folks to afford full priced tickets, even though they want to be there. Our mission is to make people and ideas easier to find, so...

...so we're going to try something unusual.

We're inviting our Bigger Ideas guests to set their own ticket prices. Just pay what you think its worth.

That's right. You choose the price you want to pay for Bigger Ideas.

But don't wait much longer. Tickets are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

How does it work?

Currently, tickets for Bigger Ideas are $125 each.

We set that price because we feel the quality of the event is very high, and we want to make sure that only the most sincerely interested people attend.

Starting today, however, and up until 5pm on Friday, June 12, tickets can also be purchased for $30, $60, $90 or $125.

Attendees will be able to select the price they want to pay. There is no catch. All tickets are created equal. Everyone in attendance will have the same access to the ideas and opportunities for personal exchanges available.

We hope people will see the value in Bigger Ideas and invest the full value of the ticket, but we understand that not everyone who wants to attend can afford it right now. So instead of spending a bunch of money trying to advertise, we thought we'd invest that money differently by extending more affordable opportunities directly to the members of Smaller Indiana.

What we don't want

We don't want people buying tickets just because they're cheap. If this thought crossed your mind, please do not take me up on this offer. Just wait for the "talks" to become available on the Web, and leave that seat for someone who really wants to be there.

This offer is meant for folks who see the value in Bigger Ideas.

People who will bring their open minds, and passion to the event. People who will come prepared to fully engage in listening to the speakers and exchanging ideas with fellow attendees. If you honestly would pay full price, but simply can't, then this offer is for you.

Before you set your price

We hope you will consider the value you're already receiving from Smaller Indiana and the value you will get from Bigger Ideas before selecting the price you wish to pay, but we also want to make sure that anyone who wants to attend can afford to do so.

PLEASE - MAKE ALL CHANGES BY 5PM ON FRIDAY, JUNE 12

Remember, Bigger Ideas promises to be groundbreaking.

They say that true, breakthrough innovation springs from environments where there is a "diversity of thought." That's why we're taking pains to attract a diverse group of scientists, educators, students, artists, entrepreneurs, technologists, clergy, non-profits and others; and that's why we selected the six keynote speakers who will be featured.

Attendees will hear great talks, but perhaps more importantly they will to get a chance to meet other inspired people. The ideas shared and the new relationships that form on June 24 will no doubt spark cross-pollination of ideas, and lead to new breakthroughs in our community our culture and our local economy.

We are expanding the conversation.

Too often the most valuable educational opportunities and personal networks are only available to folks who are "in the know," or who can afford to pay the highest prices. The TED Conference, for example, costs $6,000 and there is a waiting list! That's a tragedy. When great minds and inspired hearts can't afford to attend, everyone loses. That's why we decided early on to make scholarships available. So far we've granted over 30 full scholarships to people - mostly people from the not-for-profit sector - who've written to share who they are and why they want to attend. These people will get in for free, but they'll more than pay for themselves by applying themselves before, during and after the event.

Sadly, we cannot make any more scholarships available unless more people pay for tickets. This event is not free to produce...and we have lofty objectives...

We are shining a spotlight on Indiana...by investing the money required to video tape all speakers and publishing the talks via the Web.

We're raising money to support worthy, local causes...

Smaller Indiana will donate 10% of the net proceeds from this event to each of three charities: The Athenaeum Foundation, Giving Sum and Flanner House Charter School.

And we're trying to make Smaller Indiana stronger...

Of course some of the money will go to strengthen the Smaller Indiana community platform. Smaller Indiana has itself grown from a big idea into a local small business that helps make people and ideas findable. Which is precisely what we're doing with Bigger Ideas as well.

Here's how to get your Bigger Ideas ticket at your price:

1. Visit the event Website

2. Click on the "Register Now" button

3. Click on the "Enter discount Code" button

4. Enter the discount code that reflects to the price you want to pay:
Enter the word thirty and you will pay $30 per ticket
Enter sixty and you will pay $60 per ticket
Enter ninety and you will pay $90 per ticket

If you don't enter a discount code, you pay for the full value of the ticket, $125, and you'll help to pay for others who cannot afford full price.

Tickets supplies are extremely limited. Deadline to set your own price is 5PM ON FRIDAY, JUNE 12

I sincerely hope this new set your own price offer helps you afford to join us. Please consider it...but don't wait too long. You don't to miss your chance to register.

And in the meantime, please keep telling your friends about Bigger Ideas.

Thank you. See you on June 24.

Pat

Can I pay double? I'm not a fan of this approach. I think it dilutes the value to some extent. The event will be "sold out" regardless of how many tickets are sold. As we discussed during the recent planning session, the purpose is not to sell tickets to this event but the for the next event. You're setting a precedent with the inagural event that will be difficult to change.
I'm stll going to be in attendance and am very much looking forward to this.

You got me! It's almost like Priceline! Your head on William Shatner's body only flashed in my
mind once. That's what got me. I'll be there! Thanks

I love this idea, Pat. I hope it creates the response you're looking for. I would be interested to hear a follow-up on this to see how it turns out. Very progressive and genuinely good-natured. I love it!

What an awesome and wonderful idea!! Wanted to attend but with being unemployed going on 9 months, it was not in the budget!! With your kind offer to offer discounted price, now I can be part of this great event!! Thanks.

P.S. If you still need any volunteer assistance, please let me know.
