Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

At IndyFringe 2008 I stopped in to see Phil the Void because I had time between shows and there was nothing else I really wanted to see. I loved the program, and was really looking forward to seeing him again this year. And I wasn't disappointed.

Intelligent humor, with jokes that move quickly from topic to topic, Phil challenges his audience to look at familiar items in unfamiliar ways.

Before the show begins, Phil distributes a bibliograhpy of books whihc have served as inspiration for his show. It is an intimidating list of 23 books and 2 magazines. The good news is you can follow the humor even if you haven't read the books, but will certainly appreciate the finer points if your have.

He questions the wisdom of allowing the virtual world replace the real one, suggests that "No child is left behind" works becasue non of them are going any where, encourages you to "Expect to be disapointed, and you never will be" and cautions you that "Thinking requires energy, which is why on one is doing it anymore."

Word spreads fast on the popular shows, so if you want to see PHil in actoin, come early. He has a following, the venue is small, and the buzz is good!

Here is his schedule for the rest of the week:

Friday, August 28, 2009, 10:30 pm
Saturday, August 29, 2009, 9:00 pm
Sunday, August 30, 2009, 1:30 pm
