Job Fair Tips

Tips: Have your 30 second commercial ready –
This should be the answer to Why should we hire you?

Tip: Bring at least 25 copies of your resume
In a black portfolio so they are not wrinkled when you get into the job fair.

Fact: Employers only look at resumes an average of 10 seconds. Check out my website for how to get employers to put you in the YES pile and not the NO pile.

Tip: Do your research!
Each job fair website will list the employers and some with links to their websites. This is a hint to review your companies. Also this will help to eliminate some of the companies that may not be looking for your job skill to manage your time wisely. If you show up to a job fair without reviewing the website get the booth/company listings and job descriptions from the registration counter and take a few minutes to map out your plan of attack!

Tip: Get the interviewer's business card.
If the line is long grab a card to make sure you have touched all booths you want to speak with. You will want to try and go back to speak with them but if you are short on time makes sure you have direct contact to send a resume and thank you for their time. If you didn't speak with them you obviously want to send them a note that introduces you to them and ask to set up a meeting to discuss the job listings from the fair you are interested in.

Tip: Plan a few key questions!
Be ready to ask intelligent questions like asking how your skills might be utilized within the framework of the company and by asking questions about relevant news within that organization. Make sure to ask the recruiter what he or she likes best about the corporate culture to better assess if that company is right for you.

Tip: Wear Proper Business Attire
This means suit if you don't have one please get one if you are last minute at least wear nice slacks, button shirt, and tie. Woman same for you; suit or dress slacks and dress shirt. Don't wear boobie shirts or short skirts and remember ladies comfy shoes because those lines can be long. REMEMBER, no wrinkles, stains or ill fitting clothes. Even if the job fair is a short impression it is still a lasting one.
