Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Nicki Laycoax

I Love Smaller Indiana So Much, I Created a New Ning Platform For My Community!

Smaller Indiana has been one of the most useful tools that I have used as a marketing person for a small company. It's free, it's an awesome way to network, you're able to get to know people prior to meeting them, read their posts to see what their views and interests are, and if I'd like to take my online relationship/friendship with them the next step further and meet face to face... I've even gone as far as showing the world my feet! :)

So, since I have enjoyed it soooo much and I see that the social networking and online community opportunities available are the best way to make a community thrive, that's why I started Heartland Crossing Community!

I've created groups for each individual housing addition within the community, as well as groups for the amenities that we have available. I'm anxious to see how this builds our community! If you are a Heartland Crossing resident or know someone who is, please either join the network or tell your friends and family that are! This should be a lot of fun!

Thanks for the comment Mark! Keep me posted!

I just started it a few weeks ago and it's starting to come along nicely! We have 38 members now! (that's small as compared to Smaller Indiana's near 2,500, but I'm excited!)

Let me know if I can assist with your study.

Hey, Nicki, I'm reviewing a networking group we established at Roche for researchers, currently based on SharePoint. My own personal experience with SI mirrors yours to the point that I've "requested" our IT department to STOP CONTENT FILTERING ning.com, so I can do some testing with a ning platform for ourselves. I'll have to look your (and other) sites over, though the experience of SI is certainly provocative.

Thanks Noah! My association has a few different websites, but none that enable interaction between the members... Since I'm such a social networking junkie and want and need activities to do and people to do them with, and since gas is so expensive, I thought this was a great way to satisfy all my needs!

I am working with a couple of realtors that focus on my neighborhood, as well as getting several of the Crime Watch officials involved to help it grow!

I'll keep you posted on how things go!

What a great idea! If you have enough 'connected' neighbors that will participate, it would be a very interesting way to interact with them. I could see neighborhood associations doing something like this--and Ning is a great way to do it. I think my neighbors would use it to just complain about that one yard that never gets mowed or the house with a dozen cars parked out front!
