Making people and ideas findable

social_paulI've learned plenty of things this year (not that there's anything wrong with it) and one of the most striking is the power of New Media. And not just in some abstract, isn't-this-cool-sense. I started posting random jokes, links, and forecasts on Facebook and Twitter. Now I have a creative outlet that allows me to directly interact with viewers, listeners, non-viewers, non-listeners, weather fans, people who could care less about the weather...on and on. I don't have to blow money on a consultant. I find out right away what people respond to. It's not plastic, and it's not micro-managed. I've found Content is king, and nothing is a one-way broadcast. The conversations meander, sometimes there's no point, often the responses are ten times funnier than what I first wrote... You can't focus group it, predict it, format it, control it. Guess what? It's like LIFE.

I think it's cool that people want me to be a part of their life, and think of me as a friend. I don't do what I do on-line because it's part of a job description. I love talking with people who remember me on Channel 4 or WTPI or WENS or....(the entire resume is available on microfilm) but I want to be a personality who also lives where you are NOW. That's talking with you on the radio, chatting with you on a webcam, tweeting with you, Facebooking with you...if you're there-I'm there. (Do I sound like a stalker?)

This brings me to "Paul Poteet's Gotta Eat." I've been working through plans for several projects in the last few weeks. The business models are all slightly different, but they will all involve multiple "platforms." The most important thing: I hope they involve YOU.

I'm working with Smaller Indiana's own John Karamanski on this series. Here's a preview of "Gotta Eat" that we did for Facebook.

Great post Paul. We strive to behave with our food choices, but sometimes we just gotta have 5 guys!
