Alexandra Rose Coffey

Since I never post here anymore, I'm not sure if anyone will see this. But, I wanted to share the news with my fellow Smoosiers... Monday at 5:10 AM, my wife delivered our first baby. Alexandra Rose Coffey weighed in at 5 lbs, 15 oz and 18 inches long. She was about 5.5 weeks early and surprised us all. She is currently in the NICU, but doing very well and so far all the tests are coming back good. Still waiting to see how long she has to stay. Here is a picture of her and mommy: (… Continue

Local Media Tweets

In case you missed it, a kind of funny thing happened on Twitter last night during the final moments of the Purdue game. IndyStar tweeted the wrong final score a little early and WTHR called them on it (in good fun, of course). I just thought it was funny and interesting to see two local media outlets interacting with one another on Twitter. Here is a screen grab (read from bottom to top):

Startup funding drying up? Here's an idea: $5 million in grants!

No, my name isn't Matthew Lesko and I'm not talking about millions in free government grants to start your own gum chewing business. I'm talking about the Knight News Challenge!
The 2009 Knight News Challenge is year three of a contest awarding as much as $5… Continue

CNN.com's Use of Palin Photo

Since we're having so much fun with all this political talk, I thought I'd throw another log on the flames. I checked out CNN.com this morning to find this photo being used on the front page for a story about Palin's acceptance speech at the RNC.

My question is this... is it just me? Am I just reading too much into the photo? Am I the only one that sees the Nazi salute? My point is not

Indianapolis ranks #30 (out of 40) in Best Cities for Young Professionals

Indianapolis' median salary for college and professional graduates is $54,930, which is a lot given the city's low cost of living. Indianapolis ranked right around the middle in its concentration of graduates, but finished 33rd for its concentration of America's top companies.… Continue

Why is blogging good for Indiana?

Was thinking about this today. It's easy to come up with some great reasons why blogging is great for business of all sizes, personal hobbies, and even education. But why, specifically, is blogging good for Indiana? Meaning, in what ways do all those types of blogs, bloggers, and blogg… Continue

What is PeopleTagging?

While planning for the Blog Indiana conference next month, an idea was put forth about a creative way to have some fun with a normal networking event. The concept involves having people wear "tags" or keywords representing areas of expertise or… Continue

Disappointed Colts Fan

This is mostly venting, but I'm really tired of the Indianapolis Colts ticketing process. This morning, I anxiously awaited the 10:00 AM sale of two preseason home games at the new Lucas Oil Stadium. That's right, I used the words "anxiously" and "preseason" in the same sentence! Let's face it, pr… Continue

New myBMV feature is worth checking out

This morning on my ride in to work, I heard a mention of the BMV's new myBMV feature on their website. One of the features that caught my attention specifically was the ability to reserve vanity plates online. I've always wanted one, but never remember to do so. Turns out this is a rather nic… Continue

Search Twitter with your mobile phone

I’ve been playing around with the publisher tools for 4INFO.net and have put together a convenient way to search Twitter for a keyword via your cell phone using a text message. 4INFO is a text messaging information service that lets you request and subscribe to a wide range of information from various publishers via your cell phone. I’ve signed up as a publisher and have reserved the keyword: TSCAN. Here’s how it works...… Continue

Fun with Feeds and Safari

While I love Firefox, I've lately been using Safari (for PC) and finding it to be a guilty pleasure. For one, it sure seems to load pages much faster. It also displays text in a way that is very pleasing to the eye (ie. websites just look and read better). However, there is one simple difference that I'm really starting to take advantage of and it can really save time: default feed rendering.… Continue

Beware of Network Solutions

Just a quick word to the wise: AVOID NETWORK SOLUTIONS LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Sorry if I'm being a bit dramatic, but I tend to get a bit sensitive over companies that behave badly the way Network Solutions is. The DomainTools blog is covering the shady tactics that NetSol is now employing. It appears now that when you search for an available domain name at netsol.com, if the domain is un
