WICKED at the Murat- Do Not Miss it!

Last night I went to see WICKED at the Murat Theatre with four of my girlfriends. To describe it in one word, AMAZING!!! I have wanted to see this show for years. When I heard that it was coming to Indy, I knew it was time. We were very lucky to purchase tickets before they went on sale to the public. We also lucked out with Royalty Seating in the Lower Balcony. But, The Murat Theatre is so intimate, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The energy of the crowd waiting in line for the door… Continue

Being Frugal Can Be Fun!

Sometimes a good idea can hit you over the head. Most of mine, wake me up in the middle of the night. I know some people have amazing dreams about far away destinations with a handsome stranger or a movie star. I dream about doing home improvements with my handsome Husband. Let me explain. We wanted to change the landscaping in the front yard, but, we didn't really want to purchase new shrubs or plants. So, in my dream we transplanted a box bush and hostas from the back yard and placed them in… Continue

BECOME AN ARTIST FOR UNDER $20 BUCKS!

This past Saturday I did something new and fun. My friend Karen is getting married and we gave her a different kind of Bridal Shower. We painted dishes for her as our gifts. I have known about the "Paint Pottery" places for years. But, I thought it would we too hard and too expensive. I was SO WRONG. Karen picked out her plates and bowls. She also chose the three main colors of paint she wanted us to use. The creativity was up to us. I will be the first to tell you that I am not a good painter.… Continue

FREE SANDWICH!

I get really excited about getting anything free. I am the girl that gets giddy when I get all my punches on my lunch cards. Then I can't wait to go back and get my free lunch. I guess it makes me feel like I have earned something. It is a very smart marketing tool. I wish every restaurant did this. I wanted to share my latest find with all my Smoosier Friends. Just purchase a drink and you can get a FREE Roast Beef Burger from Arbys. http://www.arbys.com/arbyscoupon/?cid=bn_yahoo300x250030509… Continue

SNOW DAY!

I feel like a kid again. It snowed 10.7 inches last night and it is still coming down. The first thing that popped into my head was it’s a “SNOW DAY!” I was giddy with excitement. I am very lucky that I have a job that I can work from home if needed. So, today I am working in my PJ’s and loving it. It was really fun to take my puppy outside to go potty this morning. He is a 8 month old Chihuahua named Brewster. He only weighs 6 lbs. I had to put his coat and hat on him and carry him outside. He… Continue

Rescued Dogs Get New Forever Home

A fews months ago, my husband and I found two dogs running around our neighborhood. One of our neighbors told us that they had been loose in the area for several days. After much coaxing, we finally where able to trap them in our garage. They were both beautiful and you could tell they were best friends. I posted photos and a story about them here on SI and on Craigslist. Several people told me about the Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue, Inc. and even passed my story on to the rescue. They contac… Continue

Shopping for Strangers!

I had the opportunity to volunteer to wrap donated Christmas gifts for the Mental Health America of Greater Indianapolis last week. The donated gifts are for individuals with mental illness who are living in area group homes and hospitals. The gifts ranged in size and value. Some had asked for clothing items and others asked for CDs and DVDs. My favorite gift was for a lady that wanted a case of Root Beer and a hair brush. I decided to stay until all the gifts were wrapped, it took a few hours.… Continue

The strangers I met yesterday!

Yesterday was an interesting day! I had a lunch meeting with some fellow SI members. I had only met one of them before. We sat and ate, talked, laughed and even cried a little. It was an amazing experience. Then last night, I attended my first meeting of "Motherless Daughters" support group. These women were also strangers. We also sat, ate, talked, laughed and cried together. We told each other our stories about how we lost our Mother. With Christmas close at hand, I really miss having my Mom.… Continue

They can't stay a baby forever!

There has been a change in the Raflik house lately. The newest addition to our family has become a teenager. Let me explain. My husband and I made the decision to not have human children. I have a rare genetic disease that could be passed on to our offspring. So we have furry kids. Bailey Marie is our oldest, she is a beautiful gray cat. She is very petite and only weighs about 5 lbs. She belonged to a roommate of mine at college and bonded with me instead of my roommate. I always thought we ha… Continue

GOD REWARDED ME FOR VOTING EARLY!

Yesterday was an amazing day. I left work to go take advantage of being able to vote early. I arrived at 1:55 pm. As I was in line there were two gentlemen in front of me and one of them was being very vocal. It was obvious that they both had special needs. I starting talking to the taller of two men and he told me his name was James. Then he introduced me to his roommate Jeff. They were told by their mailman that they could vote today at the J. Everett Light Center. I asked them if they were re… Continue

The "N Word"

My friend was at his Country Club on Wednesday having a nice dinner with his family. All of a sudden the meal was interrupted by two men having a very loud conversation about politics a few tables over. They were laughing and giving their opinion about how people should vote. Then all of a sudden one of them said that no one in their right mind would vote that "N word" into the White House. This was followed up by many other racial slurs. My friend was mortified that this conversation was taking… Continue

My voice, my vote!

Today I went to a rally here in Indy to hear Barack Obama speak. The entire time I was there I couldn't help but feel like I was witnessing history in the making. It was such a wonderful experience. I am so glad that I took the time to go and listen. We live in the best country in the world. We have the freedom to cast our vote for the candidate that we think will do the best job for us. What a blessing to be able to have your voice be heard. I am so ready for Nov. 4th. It will be exciting to se… Continue

An Evening with the Author of EAT PRAY LOVE

Last night I had the pleasure of listening to Elizabeth Gilbert speak. She wrote the #1 New York Times Bestselling memoir called, Eat Pray Love! I had read the book quite a while ago and have recommended it to many friends. Last night was a dream come true for me. Her book really struck a cord in me and I couldn't wait to hear her share her thoughts. She was so entertaining at times I felt like I was at a comedy show. She is a wonderful story teller. She told us that from an early age she wanted… Continue

The Obama Pin Drama

I was verbally attacked at a tradeshow in Chicago because I was wearing an Obama pin. It was such a strange experience. I was actually surprised the lady said anything to me, since I am a crazy redhead (what was she thinking)! I did not shy away from offering up my views. Bottom line is, this is a free Country. We have the opportunity to vote for the candidate that we think is the best. I am so tired of people getting personal and making rude comments. Why can't we all just be nice. I only wish… Continue

Pita Pit IS OPEN!!!

Today I had the best lunch at the PITA PIT!!! Yes, friends it is open. I really can't express in words how good the food is - you have to go a see for yourself. They are located in the Willow Lake West Plaza on 86th street (same complex as Trader Joe's). I ordered the Chicken Crave with red onion, black olives, feta cheese and the secret sauce. IT ROCKS!!! I hope you all can go try it - plus, they deliver! Continue

Pita Pit is coming!!!

Today is a good day! I just heard the most amazing news. This is huge. Pita Pit is coming to Indy!!! If you don't know the magic of the Pita Pit than you should check out www.pitapitusa.com. I first went to the PP two years ago in Charlotte, NC. It is so good. My favorite is the Crave. This sandwich (pita) is one of my favorites. It rates up there with the Rock Bottom's - Club and the Friendly Tavern's - Grilled Tenderloin. Yes, I am way to excited about food. I have issues. Redhead Out! Continue

WICKED is coming to Indy!

I am so excited! After eating lunch at my favorite Mexican Resturant, El Rodeo (86th & Zionsville), I picked up the Nuvo. To my amazement was an ad claiming that WICKED is coming to Indy June 3-21, 2009 at the Murat Theatre. This is wonderful news. I have been wanting to see this musical for so long. I have had a hard time talking my husband into going to Chicago to see it. Now it is coming here. Yes, I know, it is over a year away. But, I am counting down the days. YEAH!!! Continue

I voted!

Well, I did my part, I voted yesterday. It felt good. Then they gave me a sticker to wear the read, I (on the left) and Vote Count (stacked on the right). Gosh, did they really need to save ink and not print another letter I. This makes Indiana look like we are illiterate. I can't tell you how many people stopped me yesterday and asked about that dumb sticker. They were not asking me about voting, oh no, they wanted me to explain what the sticker said. COME ON PEOPLE - I am not the sticker polic… Continue
