Match Update

We found out today that we're back to square one with the adoption process. The birth mother we spoke to a couple of weeks ago has chosen another family to adopt her child. For them, we are thrilled. And we are excited to know that her child will have a good home to go to. For us, it's a little bittersweet. Read more... Continue

Fundraiser I - Complete: An Adoption Update

I can't remember the last time I participated in a garage sale but, I can assure you that I had no recollection of it being such a huge task! But then again, I wasn't using the garage sale as a fundraiser for the adoption of our child either! Wow! I am still so overwhelmed with everything that's happened in the last couple of weeks. Our first fundraiser was a success. We made about $1700 in two days of selling, selling and even more selling. We still have lots of leftovers but plan on making go… Continue

New Colors: An Update on the Adoption

We've had a fabulous weekend! Our home is getting filled with more and more items donated from people for us to sell in our garage sale in a couple of weeks. Much of our living room is packed and now only one of us is able to park in the garage. But that won't last long, I'm sure! Read more... Continue

A Change in Course

People who know me know that I’m a driven, goal-oriented person. When I jump into something, I give it my all. As a Christian, I believe that giving your best in anything you do is the right thing to do. And, as a Christian journalist, I have always felt that it was my calling to communicate truth. Available For All To See

Our parent profile has been finalized and goes "live" tomorrow (Saturday, August 1st). We are now on display for all birth mom's to learn more about us and consider us as adoptive parents. Wow. This is such an amazing time for us. We're thrilled with progress so far, and we're humbled to know that God has already picked out our child for us. Read More... Continue

Adoption Fund Raising Efforts

Our good friends, Mark and Diane are in the midst of the adoption process and hope to bring home their little girl from Ukraine by the fall or, at the very least, later this year. (Mark is one of the pastors of our home church, Zionsville Fellowship.) As part of their fund raising efforts, they are hosting another gigantic garage sale this weekend. Read more... Continue

The Wait

There's an oldie but a goodie by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers where he sings, "The waiting is the hardest part." This is where we are right now... waiting. And we know this is just the first stage of waiting! But we're ok with that. We sent off our application for adoption yesterday. We did so after much consideration and prayer about which agency to use. Read More... Continue

Getting Started with Adoption - Guest Blogger

This blog was written by my friend, Brooke Randolph. I met Brooke through Smaller Indiana (www.smallerindiana.com). Our initial meeting was to discuss a book project on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Brooke is a licensed therapist and is experienced in the treatment of trauma. But through our conversation, I learned that she is also the Director of Adoption Preparation at MLJ Adoptions, Inc. I asked her to prepare a blog about what newcomers to the ado… Continue

The Wound is Still Fresh

I recently saw an interview with (former NY City) Mayor Rudy Guilliani. He mentioned that he thinks about 9/11 every single day. In many ways, so do I. For the people who were there (like me), it is a wound that will never fully heal. And the Barack Obama Administration has decided to pick at the scab, open it up and pour in a ton of salt. He claims innocence; that he didn’t know anything about it. But I just can’t seem to swallow that pill. How can the President of the United States NOT know w… Continue

The Olive Branch

From Old Testament times and ancient Greece and Rome to the present day, the olive branch has symbolized peace and gestures of reconciliation and goodwill. Regardless of how the olive branch got its meaning, peace and goodwill are in short supply, whether we are considering the world as a whole or our individual relationships. Relationships are too important to lose due to conflict. The Olive Branch is where people find peace in relationships. All of us are involved in conflict at one time or… Continue

7 Things You Probably Didn't Want to Know About Me But Someone Else Asked Me To Tell You

I'm having a great time learning so much about my fellow SIer's. I guess I'm semi-popular because I was tagged by two wonderful women - Lisa Ralph and Cissi Sherlock. So, it's my turn now. 1. I was born at a very early age. Seriously. My dad was in the Army and met my mother in Germany. She is a native Austrian. (Austria - not Australia) I was named after both of my gr… Continue

Post Op Observations: The Best Medicine

The best medicine for recovering from surgery: Mom - She came all the way from South Carolina (where I grew up) to stay with us and lend a helping hand. She has doted on me and my husband with such devotion and affection. She's spoiling her "grand-animals" with such joy. Even though I'm getting better and am starting to do things on my own, she insists that I let her help me. She needs to be needed, and I need her. My Hubby - A man secure enough in himself to let his mother-in-law take over wh… Continue

Election Day Turnout... Oh, The Lines!

If I hadn't seen it with my very own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. The line went on for what seemed like forever. The people in the front of the lines kept looking back to watch it grow and grow until they could see it snake outside the door, into the parking lot. Eventually, the people in the middle of the lines started doing the same. Each person who approached the line cried the same sentiment, "Oh, my goodness. I can't believe I will have to wait this long!" But that wasn't the only li… Continue

The Slippery Slope

How do you respond to conflict? There are three different ways we respond to conflict. In the work we do at Crossroads Resolutions, we use something called a Slippery Slope. So, imagine a half-circle, a slipper slope and three sections. To the left are escape responses, to the right, attack responses and in the middle, peace-making. Read more... Continue
