Today was the day, my dear loyal readers. I got to go to
King David Dogs in downtown Indianapolis this afternoon, as part of Indy's first
TasteCasting adventure. And what an adventure it was!
I got there early, as I was going to try to scout out a place to sit, close to an electrical outlet, but that didn't really work out, so I settled for…

Remember when I told you about the concert that I sang in a couple weeks ago? Well, I've been roped into another production, this time a pretty big deal (even though I play a very small part). On Mother's Day weekend (Saturday and Sunday, May 9 & 10),
St. Luke's United Methodist Church and
Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis are co-presenting a full-scale production of the classic musical "Fiddler on the Roo…

Shortly after yesterday's dress rehearsal for
today's "Requiem" concert at St. Luke's, I got an e-mail letting me know that a dear friend and fellow choir member had passed away. Bob Butler, a good friend and a good man, had been hospitalized recently, and his condition had worsened over the past few days, and now he's gone Home.
Bob was one of the first people to welcome me to the St. Luke's Chancel Choir when I started…

Having grown up in the orchestra program of Carmel-Clay Schools, I'm probably more into classical music than the average person. I hope, though, that you'll consider joining me and almost 200 other musicians for a concert this Sunday, to hear the Indianapolis premiere of a piece that debuted at the opening and re-dedication of the Mormon Tabernacle just a little over a year ago.

I'm excited about a performance that I have an opportunity to be a part of in the coming weeks. In March, St. Luke's United Methodist Church's Chancel Choir and Orchestra
will present one of the first performances of a piece called
Requiem, composed by
Mack Wilberg, the music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. (…

It's a joy only to have to provide 7 things about me, after having provided
25 Things and
16 Things on Facebook. (And, hey, while we're talking about that,
let's be friends on Facebook, huh?) I'll try to provide new things for my Smoosier friends to learn about me:
1. I…

I've seen a couple bloggers use audio to enhance their blog posts, and I've been wondering what it would be like to do the same. In this age of videovideovideo, audio almost seems quaintly low-tech in its approach, but I've seen it used pretty effectively.
I decided to try it with my latest post on
my personal blog -- I wrote a short piece this morning and decided to read it aloud and post that to accompany it. Having no podcasting software, I -- hon…

I went to lunch today with my friend Tom, the facility manager at Broadway Church, where I used to work. As we headed up to
Sam’s Gyros on 54th – please don’t tell
Mr. Gyros on 38th that I was unfaithful – Tom mentioned that we needed to sto…

As I sit here listening to Smoosier
Richard Ramsey play beautiful Christmas music on his SI profile page, I'm reminded of all the wonderful gifts that the Smaller Indiana community has to share. I think the best thing about SI is the people I've gotten to know -- if only electronically -- and the awesome impact they make on the world and on me in so many ways.
I'm reminded of…

I do not know if
the information in this picture conveys what I think it conveys, but it certainly is striking to me...
Drop your knowledge on me, y'all -- does this chart mean anything?

Not sure this is SI-blog-worthy, but it's a great deal that I want to share with y'all...
Over on
LifeHacker.com, they've pointed out an AMAZING opportunity that's only good now through Halloween.
Restaurant.com always offers gift certificates at a great rate (like a $25 gift certificate for $10), and they have a bunch of Indy restaurants in their stable -- L'explorateur, Adob…

This morning I attended a F2F (that's "face-to-face") meeting of some of SI's
Indy Fringe Festival Blogforce. Having only met IRL (that's "in real life") with a couple of other Smoosiers, I was excited to expand my network and see how I might contribute to SI's partnership with
Indy Fringe. (Keep an eye out for some cool stuff about Fringe coming soon on SI!)
One of the interesting things t…

This morning, I discovered a hell of an essay from Smoosier
Lalita Amos, cross-posted on
The Bilerico Project from
the American Values Alliance.
The post is a spirited, witty, insightful look at the N-word itself, (I'm still not sure I can use
the word, despite the title of the post: "The…

Must have been something in the water 35 years ago. I recently saw Smoosier
Brandon Lott's post about turning 35 and, as I myself made the Big Demographic Leap on Monday, I'm posting, too.
Over on my own blog, I've posted a list of 35 things I've learned in 35 years. I'll reproduce that list here for you Smoosiers to discuss:
- People whose vehicles a

Normally my culture-watch column (read by,

But not today. Today, my advice for you is to invest an hour and a half and ten bucks in a…

Can YouTube survive with millions of lower-quality videos?
On my
personal blog, I post a lot of videos. Most of them are there just for me, kind of like an online video album of funny or poignant things I find, so I don't have to hunt for them again.
The majority of videos that I post are from YouTube. For example, I have posted
my favorite mov…
