A tribute to my Dad on Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and I can never find just the right card to let my father know the enormous positive influence he's had in making me who I am today. I am very close to my mother, and I give her a lot of credit in my upbringing, but I often forget to let my Dad know how key he was as well. Since I was born in 1962, my Dad was not the typical hands on dad you may see today, but he still taught me a life-time of lessons that are the foundation of who I am. Here are just a few of those lesson… Continue

Do you go to work in DRAG?

Just wondering. I found this great blog and this post really struck a chord. How many people go to work to be one person and are really someone else outside of work? Moreover, how many times do we see others that way? I have to admit that I do go to work in Drag sometimes, but I will be more committed to putting the 'business drag' away and just be me no matter what. Continue

400 dancers in Liverpool Train Station, London

For a quick shot of 'happy' in your day --watch this short video. It was shot at Liverpool station in London. They used 400 dancers and 10 hidden cameras. No one but the station employees and dancers knew what was going on... it was aired on youtube and tv and you can see the number of passers- by that shot what they could with their phones... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ3d3KigPQM&eurl=httContinue

Tips for Customer Service

I just have to share this great video relating to Zappos customer service and core values. For example, here are just a few ideas--- Zappos offers free shipping both to your home and for returns. They require every employee to experience the call center and the shipping center, no matter who you are (atty, accountant, executive, etc.). They want their brand to be Customer Service. If you are looking for some ideas on how to improve your customer focus, watch this. I warn you it is 30 minutes, b… Continue

TED is now a favorite

I have just recently been introduced to TED presentations that are utterly unbelievable. They seem like what has only been portrayed in movies, but the abilities are actually available today. TED Conferences cover new ideas in Technology, Entertainment and Design. Here's a newsclip: Each year since 1984 many of the world's top minds have come to a gorgeous Monterey Bay setting to discuss big ideas at TED, but the ideas are as varied and sweeping as the entirety of human existence. They often ha… Continue

What does abundance mean to you? Do you agree with Steven Van Meter's view? Can we have abundance in 2009?

I'm always interested in understanding how people look at being rich and having abundance. What is your definition? I can't help but post this article I recently read because it really struck a cord with me. What do you think? Can we have abundance in 2009? Here it is---taken from Steven Van Meter in Science of the Mind magazine December daily post for today: Do you want to be truly rich? You already are if you are happy and good. 1 Timothy 6:6 Know that the greater abundance of every good th… Continue

Ignore the Dow!

How many of us check to see what the Dow has done at the end of the day? Did you notice that the news made you feel either one way or another? Remember the multi day rally a week or two ago--didn't that feel good? Yet everytime there is a steep drop, boy do we feel bad. The steeper the drop--the worse we feel. Some of us may not even have any money in the market! A recent article in New York Magazine discusses the connection of our sense of well being to the panicky twitches of a market indicat… Continue

ARE YOU FEARFUL OF YOUR FUTURE BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY?--What you can do now.

The media blitz is on and everywhere we look, we hear about the latest development with job loss, consumer loss of confidence, stock market drops and bad news. Does this add to your anxiety level? What do you do about it? I had several conversations this week that really helped me to put this in perspective. The first was with my financial planner, Bill Hancock at Merrill Lynch (love him by the way), who shared that while he was getting hammered this week; he noted that we have seen tough times,… Continue

DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ALL POWERFUL?

What do you think? Do you dare think that you are all powerful? Do you reserve that solely for God? If so, regardless of your religious belief system, do you believe that God is within each one of us? And if he/she is---and we believe God to be all powerful, then are we not capable of being all powerful as well? Below is something that Nelson Mandela read at his Inaugural Speech in 1994. I’m interested in what you think. Our Deepest Fear Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequ… Continue

DON'T GO THERE---Coaches play of the day

I recently met with a client who wanted to set and map out some long term goals. I showed him a tool I have used in the past which is pretty easy to design for yourself. Others have found it very useful, so I thought I would share. You might find it useful with New Years and resolutions right around the corner. Use a simple table like the one below and set aside some time to really focus and contemplate the different elements in your life (You can choose what these are, or just choose one if yo… Continue

The absolute JOY of a child

I took a day of vaca today and decided I was truly going to do whatever I really wanted to do. That started with sleeping in, followed by a long walk on a beautiful morning, just listening to the sounds of nature and life around me. Soon after turning the corner from my street, I noticed a noise which was very out of place---kind of like a rhythmic loud squeaking/pounding sound, yet very metallic. As I kept walking, and the volume grew, I finally noticed a young boy on a trampoline in his backya… Continue

I am Peace

I read something today that just stopped me in my tracks. Ever heard the quote by Gandhi "Be the change you want to see in the world"? This is what it reminded me of, yet I constantly need to be reminded to incorporate this into my life on a daily basis. The following is in November's Science of the Mind magazine: I am Peace The peace I wish to see in others is the peace that I am. Every thought, word, and action comes from knowing that I am peace. I let there be peace in all of my affairs. I l… Continue

Baby Blues

In todays Baby Blues comic strip it shows the mother agreeing to help her daughter button a shirt, while holding a baby, bag of groceries, balancing on one foot, etc. In the next cell it shows the same child asking the father for help with a button while he is eating a sandwich, to which he replies----'can you please go ask your mother?' Now at first, I thought this was a bit cute, and considered it very typical--yes mothers sacrifice all the time and multitask out the wazoo, while the dads don… Continue

The Joy of Spinning

For those of you who are exercise buffs, you may thing that I am going to talk about the wonderful exhilaration I experience while riding a stationary bike in a class setting with wonderful music and a motivating spinning instructor. No, actually what I am going to talk about (or write about I guess) is what my friend Bob (names have been changed to protect the innocent) fondly call ‘spinning’. It is that ungodly chatter in our minds that take us down the spiral into the thought patterns of “Oh,… Continue

Practicing What I Preach

I hope that I don’t actually ‘preach’ to people and that instead I am a foundational touch stone that reminds my clients of what they know they really want. I chose this title just because it is catchy, cliché and it really is relevant to the situation. I have always found that the best way to be an expert at something is to not only learn it and live it, but to teach it as well. I have been offering numerous teleclasses on different elements of Personal Foundation and am gearing up for one on… Continue

What Neighbors Do---Paying it Forward BIG TIME

A few Saturdays ago, my neighbor showed the true meaning of paying it forward. Debbie is a real animal lover. She has two small dogs and 2 cats, and cannot pass an animal in the neighborhood without saying hello. So it was no small stretch for her to pull off the side of the road one Saturday as she noticed a turtle trying to cross. Concerned for the turtle’s safety, she pulled off and picked the turtle up in order to get him out of harm’s way. How many of us would do that? Further on her way h… Continue

Setting Up for Failure

Yesterday I wanted to hang a curtain rod. This sounds like a simple task, but for me it is usually an ordeal. Knowing my limitations, I asked my husband to help me. Now, I could do it myself. I know how to use all of the handtools, the drill, screwdriver, put in anchors, etc., but I really didn’t want to do all that. I just wanted to hang the curtain rod and be done with it as fast as possible. So the reason I asked for help was because we had just had the room painted and all of the holes had… Continue
