Trick To Getting Responses on SI: Mention Colts

It's interesting how many comments Colts Confessions has had (95 at time of this post). I love the Colts and enjoyed last night's game. Being a Colts fan definitely has roller coaster moments. Does other content on SI generate this much interest? I suppose we might all day tell our grandkids about "that game". Continue

Is There A Strategy for Indiana?

Just curious if you have come across a strategy for Indiana or even Indianapolis? If so, please share it. I've been toying with the idea of developing a strategy for Indiana regarding the life sciences industry. I don't completely like this concept because focusing solely on life sciences is not holistic. But it's what I know. So I thought I would get input from Smaller Indiana. You know other stuff and can help contribute to developing an Indiana (or maybe just Indy) strategy. It might be eas… Continue

Is Indiana Ready To Host Conventions?

Did you attend the Techpoint Innovation Summit? I did. It was held at the Indiana Convention Center. Clay Christensen was fantastic. IMHO, the rest of the summit was okay. One of the detractors had to do with the Convention Center. Signage was terrible. I walked around most of the first floor before finding the Techpoint signs. I got there ~9am. No coffee! The Convention Center has a coffee stand. CLOSED! If Indiana wants to host… Continue

To access the company directory, please enter the first few letters of the person's first name

I have a BlackBerry. More times than not, it's a very convenient tool. But I do have an issue where you might be able to help. Sometimes when making calls, I get the automated company directory. The recorded voice prompts me to enter the first few letters of a person's name. However, BlackBerrys do not list the letters that correspond to each number. I usually guess and guess wrong. Chargers Replace Patriots As Monkey On Colts Back

Ouch! I respect the San Diego Chargers but I hate when the Colts have to play them in either the regular season or in the playoffs. Tonight, certainly, was no exception. Coming in to the game, the Colts were supposedly the hottest team in the NFL by winning their last nine. But clearly the Chargers are definitely the hottest team in the league; they were 4 - 8 but won their last 4 to get into the playoffs. And now they've knocked off the Colts. Congratulations to them! For years, the "monkey" o… Continue

Auto Bailout = More Advertising Dollars?

During the Colts game (what a tough loss!), I noticed more automobile advertising than normal. Did the car companies use their bailout money to up their prime time NFL playoff advertising budget? How much did each of those ads set them back? Continue

I Love My Mechanic

One of the "rules" I live by is this: Have a mechanic who is trustworthy and does great work. My mechanic is Joe Disney of Joe's Automotive Service. Joe has been taking care of my vehicles for about 10 years and always does a fantastic job. Joe's Auto is based in Martinsville, but they have clients from all over central Indiana. Sure, Joe and his team are great mechanics. But what makes them the best are the little things. Here are some exa… Continue

We Need Another Tea Party

I've read a few posts on SI and other sources about the politics of the day. I watched quite a bit of the Democratic National Convention and a bit of the Republican National Convention. I'm interested to hear more rhetoric from John McCain tonight. To be fair, the DNC and Barack also spewed quite a bit of rhetoric too. I have never firmly associated with either party. I consider myself an independent but also suspect that when it comes to politics, I share many views similar to both Republicans… Continue

License & Registration Please

"License and registration please." How many times have you heard this? Have you heard it with more frequency in the past 3 months that any other 3 month period you can recall? From my personal experience, I've been pulled over for speeding two times in the past few months. Fortunately, both were warnings. Prior to that, I was pull over maybe twice in my previous 16 years of driving. A friend of mine has been pulled over three times and recieved three tickets in the past three months. He belie… Continue

What's your tagline? How do you pitch?

Disclaimer: I'm an engineer who knows enough about marketing to be a little dangerous. I'm typing this post because many of you are in fact marketing experts. I truly would like your opinions. It has been nearly two years since I received my first pay check for Creo Quality. The business model has been fairly consistent but the actual services have evolved slightly. And I rarely put much emphasis on the importance of a clear, concise message or… Continue

Can Water Be Moved?

I live in Morgan County and have seen plenty of flood water this weekend. Obviously, many other communities in Indiana have been dealing with the same problem: lots of water but no where for it to go. Conversely, I've heard about the terrible drought conditions in Florida and California. If only there was a way to transport the excess water in Indiana and ship it to drought areas. Continue

Has the Mighty Google Been Infiltrated?

How many of you use Google tools (GMail, GCalendar, etc.)? I use quite a few. I recently received an email claiming to be from Google customer service saying that my GMail account is going to be shut down if I didn't reply. Then today, I received a invitation via GCalendar: Dear Account User This Email is from Gmail Customer Care and we are sending it to every Gmail Email User Accounts Owner for safety. we are having congestions due to the anonymous registration of Gmail accounts so we areContinue

Life On Wheels

I did something tonight I haven't done in 20 years: roller skate. Put wheels on my feet, and I struggle. Just when I got the hang of it (sorta), I fell on my knee. It sure smarts now. My wife hasn't been in ~15 years. She tried to regain her skating prowess from days of old. She was trying to dance and fell--hard on her rear. She'll pay for that one! We both walk much better than I skate, although walking may be a bit labored the next few days. It was good to get out of my comfort zone for a few… Continue

In the few months I've been a member of SI, I've been very encouraged about the open, friendly, free exchange of thoughts and ideas. Sure a few posts elicit more passionate responses than others. I've been following some comments from a recent post and some of the comments were flat out attacks. From my perspective, we are all in this together. Continue
