I've been on the road a lot the past 3 months. It's my busy season, what with rendezvous and re-enactments. My Rodney the Younger character is always outside, performing magic that is over 100 years old, and taking in the sights and sounds of the 18th and 19th Centuries. As I sit in my hotel room in Nashville, TN, I have on Classic Showcase. This highlights great music, art, dance, and a myriad of other things that make life worth living.
I was just watching/listening to Handel's Fireworks Musi…

As the current director of INDYPROV, I've been very involved with this year's IndyFringe Festival. From rehearsals, to shows, to street teaming, I've seen every side of the festival. I have to say that I love this time a year. It allows us to connect with other performance…

Indy Fringe Day 1
The Cask of Amontillado
Wine…..revenge…..intrigue…..opera…..costumes….Edgar Allen Poe…..what more could a girl want in a Fringe Festival show?? The Cask of Amontillado promised to be a fun diversion for the Man and me on a Saturday afternoon.
It’s interesting to me that operas are one of my favorite things….although they are typically somewhat tragic. The Man and I have the discussion often about tragic music (which he likes) and happy music (which is my preference). I once…

Tortillo!!!
Indy Fringe, Day 2
The Man and I head down to Mass Ave to check out something a little different than Saturday’s Edgar Allen Poe Opera,
The Cask of Amontillado. We decided that the end of the weekend and the quickly approaching Monday needed a good shot of laughter and
Tortillo was just what the doctor ordered.
Scooby Doo meets the snack food industry…….meets Batman and Robin…..including a quirky but hilarious “guest star appearance” of a psychedelic English rock sta…

On my way to find parking at the concrete parking lot behind the church, I came across performers on their way to wherever they were suppose to go..love those segway scooters but I see the wind is alittle in the way for the poster to stay straight!

I was downtown and decided to go pick up the IndyFringe Passes and backer buttons. Road construction made it a little hard to find parking but I managed to get a free spot with no parking meters – thinking I’d be in and out in a very short while. Instead I ended up seeing a little of a rehearsal movement, speaking with Pauline Moffat and getting the passes from her and meeting a young lady who’s helping out there and is interested to blog a few shows for Smaller Indiana. I have since wrote to Er…

It's 2 weeks until the Fifth Indy Fringe Theatre Festival opens and last week I was about to chuck the whole show that I'm performing. It was that or not going to Las Vegas right before the festival. The reason to go to Vegas is one of the great magic conventions and one that doesn't happen annually. MAGIC Live! is put on by one of my industry's great magazines. Simply named MAGIC! it is the brainchild of Stan Allen, a professional friend for nearly 20 years. He's an editor, writer, creator, and…

I sometimes think that blogs are just writer's masturbation. You do it because of ego or because you want to share your life experiences. I do it because I feel privelaged to perform for people that most magicians never do and in places most would find difficult. Most don't want to perform outdoors because of weather, distractions, and not being able to be heard. I embrace all, because that's the way it was done before electricity.
My historical shows take me everywhere, so I write about the ad…

After spending the entire day at the Fringe Festival,
the Birdmann would be our 5th and final play of the day. We began the day on a high note at
Assholes and Aureoles and ended it on the low note of the Birdmann. This was by far our least favorite of the day. The Birdmann, Trent Baumann from Surfers Paradise, Australia, flew over here to present his one…

Assholes and Aureoles - WWW--Well written, well acted, and witty! The comedic chemistry between Diane Kondrat and Karen Irwin is titillating to watch. And watching them flip flop between absurd characters in a particularly chaotic vignette had me in stitches.
Jealous Sky - With the numerous solo-acts at IndyFringe this year, it was nice to see a new work with an ensemble cast. Kimberly Lester makes a handsome Amelia Earhart, and Cindy Phillips well-embodies the "china doll" persona that Paul Ba…

Last night I attended a fundraiser for the upcoming I
ndyFringe festival at the American Cabaret Theater. What a fabulous evening! Pauline Moffat, the Executive Director for IndyFringe, certainly knows how to throw a party. The admission price of $25 included a yummy sampling of tapas from Barcelona as well as a terrific show.
For those of you unfamiliar with IndyFringe, it’s a10 day celebration of alternative theater, performance arts – and so much…
