My Dad, Charles Poteet, is the Greatest Dad In The World. I'm in second place, and I have two future candidates for third place that I'm pretty fond of. One of them let me pass the time recently on a road trip by making him perform.

Have you made plans for Father's Day yet? If your dad is like mine, he is going to love the idea of getting desert from Wendy's. My father has a heart for children and says that most of his best friends are under 4 feet tall. He looks forward to his turn to work with the kids during children's church and has faithfully followed his class from infancy to first grade. Although his children are adults, he keeps a stocked toy closet and a library of Disney Pixar and other such movies (although those… Continue

Okay, I'm stoked to be eating pancakes for charity in a couple of weeks. I feel honored to be a part of the amazing people behind Carb Day For A Cause.
You know, I’ve been thinking about what it means to be hungry. I never really thought about it much until I jumped on board with Carb Day For A Cause. I mean, how often do we exaggerate ourselves by using the common phrases, “I’m STARVING,” or “I’m so hungry I could die.” I mean, seriousl… Continue

In my family of siblings and half siblings, mothers, step-mothers, and mothers-in-law, I estimate that during the collective thirty-plus years of celebrating Mother's Day we've come up with nearly 200 gift ideas. Undoubtedly, there have been some repeats. This is the time when my siblings and I begin brainstorming, and each year it gets harder to come up with something that feels fresh or useful or at least not completely lame. It is time to take things to the next level.
This year to celebrate… Continue

This is a tasty, very easy, quick bread. I think I've had this recipe since 4th grade. I got it from my teacher during our culture exchange day - where everyone brings in a classic dish from their ancestral country. Our family makes this bread every year for St. Patrick's Day - even though we're not Irish. Not a bit, I'm afraid, we just like to chime in. Those Irish have all the fun! The recipe is at the end of this blog post, so you can make it tonight or tomorrow to celebrate. Enjoy!… Continue
For the many in our Indy Metro Church family, today is a day of great significance in their spiritual journey's. For all it can be an opportunity to begin an extended period of releasing sin's grasp and clinging to God's goodness.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lenten period and occurs forty-six days, forty days not counting Sundays, before Easter. Ash Wednesday is named from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads Christ followers as a sign of repentance.
Throughout the Scriptures,… Continue
So, it’s a Snow Day... one of the few days of respite in a central Indiana winter. What magic can you create in the oven that will soothe, warm, and comfort those shovel weary muscles. Look to the pantry (or root cellar clear I suppose if those still exist), to the bottom, behind everything. You probably have some or all of the following: potatoes, parsnips, carrots, celery, celery root, beets, onions, dried herbs... you get the idea.
So, what to do with all this? Roast it in a ro… Continue
Veteran’s Day, 2008
He was a part of the Greatest Generation. Born in 1930 to poor parents in northern Alabama at the beginning of the Depression, Daddy did not have an easy life.
The oldest of five children, he always worked - through school, college, married life, the Navy and then married life with children.
Daddy was 21 years old and had already married the love of his life when he enlisted in the Navy. He felt it was his duty to serve and was promptly shipped off to San Diego for basic t… Continue
