How important is our environment?
Last year, I was doing some volunteer work and had the opportunity to get to know a 5 year old boy named Bill. Bill lived with his mother and grandmother in a small 2 bedroom apartment. Bills’ mother worked 2 jobs to put food on the table, and his father was in jail.
After I completed my project with this family, I remember thinking to myself – “What is going to become of Bill?”
His environment is filled with individuals who have struggled and never achieved…

An idea is like a secret. You bubble over with excitement and containing it is a challenge.
Sure, sharing your invention with others is a good way of gauging the feasibility of a product, but it can also be the death of your promising idea. No friend means harm, but you never know who their friends know. Your idea could be in someone else's hands within minutes. Thankfully, BEFORE sharing my idea of the SmartZip™ Sleeper, a lawyer told me I should seriously consider filing for a provisional pat…

This is my first time at the Indianapolis International Film Festival – Since I like making videos, I was primarily interested in short stories. Thrillers/suspense/whodunits and especially horror is my kinds of genre so I was delighted they are showing one called “Shorts M Night Would be Proud of/shorts with a Twist”. Ok, this will show my true ignorance! I don’t know how the film industry worked..do these films later get shown on big screens? Maybe at independent film events? Ironic that I’m no…

Providing care for someone with Alzheimer’s or another related dementia can be one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. Often, caregivers are the children of elderly parents requiring 24 hour care. These adult children are not medical professionals nor do they have prior experience providing medical care. The typical caregiver often has a job during the day and is “sandwiched” between raising a family and caring for their parents.
According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, “bet…

I rarely have good luck. I usually wait around for the third bad thing to happen so I can move on with my day or week. The stars must have been aligned one morning. To my surprise, I received a call from a writer from a local magazine. She found me through a local networking site smallerindiana.com. It was proof this online social networking was working! She wondered if she could interview me for an article on enterprising women. Me an enterprising woman? You got that from my profile? Can I just…

John and Kate plus eight has ruined many lives. Don't believe me? They were all over the
Post today and talk shows and THE Soup and everywhere. They are miserable, people around them are miserable and 'its all because they wanted to be on TV'. To be honest, its because YOU watch that crap. And because…

Okay, I'm stoked to be eating pancakes for charity in a couple of weeks. I feel honored to be a part of the amazing people behind
Carb Day For A Cause.
You know, I’ve been thinking about what it means to be hungry. I never really thought about it much until I jumped on board with Carb Day For A Cause. I mean, how often do we exaggerate ourselves by using the common phrases, “I’m STARVING,” or “I’m so hungry I could die.” I mean, seriousl…

One week ago I had never heard of a cell phone lot. Then I went to pick up my niece at the brand new and totally redesigned Indianapolis airport. That's when I discovered that cell phone lots are a brilliant invention.
If you are like me a week ago and have no idea what a cell phone lot is let me explain. A cell phone lot is a small parking lot just outside the airport where you can park for free (at least it's free in Indianapolis) while waiting for someone's plane to arrive. The idea is that…

Most couples with kids can define their lives in two parts: BC and AC -- before children and after children. In our BC life, Mike and I did lots of cool cultural things, like going to the theater (the kind where the floor is not sticky with spilled pop). Tonight we had a BC date and went to see "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT).
After we picked up our tickets at Will Call in the IRT's new lobby, we checked our coats (and Mike's ever present Indiana Jones hat) before…

Everyone tends to discuss the concept of customer service as a way of building business and making a difference, but yet it's so hard to find in the real world of doing business.
When you get a moment, take a peek at the customer service movie below -

I challenge my fellow networkers to take on such a role in our community.
Enjoy.

One of the quickest ways for a résumé to find its way to the round file, or the no thanks stack, is to start it out with the ho-hum, everybody does it, old school approach of The Objective. The Objective – the phrase sounds like it should be the name or the title of some drama based TV show or motion picture. When it comes to a job résumé, everybody knows what the objective is – and that is to get a job – wrong (tricked ya), it is to get an interview. Don’t bring drama into your résumé with The…

Yesterday, I wrote a blog post warning noobies that not every Black Friday deal is a good deal. After reading that blog post back a few times and realizing its somewhat negative tone, I felt compelled to do another blog post about Black Friday, but this time in a more positive light.
That positive for me is Amazon.com. Black Friday, and the few days that follow, are some of the funnest days to shop online at Amazon.com. Here's why. For starters, Amazon.com can't disguise a bad deal as a good on…

The media blitz is on and everywhere we look, we hear about the latest development with job loss, consumer loss of confidence, stock market drops and bad news. Does this add to your anxiety level? What do you do about it? I had several conversations this week that really helped me to put this in perspective. The first was with my financial planner, Bill Hancock at Merrill Lynch (love him by the way), who shared that while he was getting hammered this week; he noted that we have seen tough times,…

Now I know there are a number of Indiana University graduates on here and I know you all would probably like to support some alumni that have an amazing story.
I had some contacts from
Atlanatic Records email me recently to ask if I could help promote one of their new acts on my music blog. It turns out it's
a group of guys I saw on YouTube do an entertaining performance of 12 Days of Christmas…

I received my reminder email yesterday about Blog Action Day. If you don't know what it is, and would like to participate, please check out
www.blogactionday.org. This year is the 2nd annual event, and this year's topic is poverty. The goal is that if the over 7,500 worldwide bloggers write one post on one day, that for at least one day, we will all take the time to think about what we can all do to stop poverty.
I recently posted an update with a video on :…

How did it all begin?
Well I was an industrial apparatus repairman in 1996 - I got clumsy on a jobsite & took a tumble ..As a result my rotator cuff was torn & my shoulder dislocated. Several weeks of rehab, surgery, and more rehab followed.I was alarmed that my arm would not recover & I had no other skill to market. So I bought a $1300 home computer ( WIN 95) and vowed to master it.
But alas-the internet had made its debut-what was I to do but go endlessly surfing among the myrads of…

Humanity Unites Brilliance HUB
I am so excited by the opportunity and vision of Humanity Unites Brilliance. I truly feel like I was called by the Creator to work with HUB, to help promote HUB, and to assist in manifesting the vision of HUB.
Some of you may be familiar with my 'Grand Experiment' (a 30 experiment focused on specific prayers, meditation, etc). One of my intentions spoken daily during the experiment was "Blessings of prosperity and abundance to all of humanity". It was towards the…
