In a non-scientific poll, the IndyChannel.com asked on Friday whether you believe in the recently published recommendations of less testing for certain cancers for women in specific age brackets. The poll is not perfect. It includes false choices. But for the sake of discussion, lets say we trust the data in the sur… Continue

Do you ever drive through a neighborhood and think it’s flawless? Perfect homes, perfect yards…everything just fits together like a glove. I love seeing these types of communities and apartment complexes. It’s exciting to me to see when the signs accompanying the communities are in unison with the vision the designer had.
I think an excellent example of unity with signage and the community it represents would be Prairie Lakes in Noblesville, Indiana. I’m proud to say that the company I work for,… Continue

This blog is an example of simple exercise that I took our Account Executive through last week. She is building her portion of our business from scratch, and if she wants to get immediate sales, she is going to have to beat the pavement. Yes, Beat It – just like Michael Jackson.
This blog may not be for executive leadership, but it is for any business owner who wants to survive the re-prioritization of corporate dollars spent by generating new leads and immediate sales fast!
Here are the top 1… Continue

MySpace has been struggling against the ever growing popularity of Facebook, but I believe the real “last nail in the coffin” is coming from Twitter. MySpace used to pummel my inbox with “friends” I have never met, but apparently found me irresistibly sexually attractive. I was beginning to think I had lost that cyber-sex appeal as my MySpace spam trickled to a stop. Lo and behold, my inbox has once again began filling with pleas from girls who desperately wanted to meet me. This time it wasn’t… Continue

Came across this quote in Michael Boyle's book about designing strength training programs.
"Remember, you can't believe everything you read, and you shouldn't read only what you believe."
That's especially true of things related to fitness but really applies to any topic. As they say, if it's too good to be true... Continue

Sometimes, I just wallow……I have a bad day….a bad week….a bad year…. I open a bottle of wine……pour a pot of earl grey tea……devour a box of tagalongs….and cry on the shoulders of my girlfriends…..and they understand me…..love me…and support me. But sometimes I wonder……am I allowed to wallow in happiness?? Better yet….do I allow myself to wallow in happiness.
T.S. Eliot wrote in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, “I have measured my life with coffee spoons.” Do I do that with happiness??… Continue

With the advent of all of these social media tools like Twitter and Facebook, online privacy becomes a big issue. Some people stay off these tools all together in fear of sharing too much information with the World Wide Web. For instance, on Facebook, you can find my birthday, the school and year that I graduated from college, my girlfriend’s name, and even my job title, email address, and iChat screen name. This information is private and relates only to me fo… Continue

Contrary to Kermit the Frog’s belief, it actually IS easy being green. It’s as easy as purchasing preowned, refurbished and remanufactured office furnishings. These items are in great like-new condition. Few would know they aren’t straight-from-the manufacturer.
Additionally, another way to be green is rather than throwing your old furniture away, you can give it a face-lift. Changing the colors of the wood, painting your file cabinets and… Continue
Most business blogs are about your business. Makes sense since that’s usually the core reason for blogging in the first place. But the blogs must bring value and interest to your readers or they’ll stop reading. There are other things you can do with your blog to shake it up a little, which will help solidify the relationships with your customers.
Talk about your industry, not just your business. Note any current trends and how it might impact the entire industry. Inform your readers of any con… Continue

Hello Smaller Indiana,
Every since I first read about polyphasic sleep in 2007 it has lingered in the back of my mind. Taking a 20 minute nap every 4 hours around the clock… is it possible? Could my body adjust? Could I function? Would I have the energy to exercise, or would I sit around in a daze? (twenty minute naps around the clock adds up to about 2 hours of sleep per 24 hour period).
Well, I'm trying it and I'm documenting my experience on my blog. Currently I'm over 48 hours in and so fa… Continue

Yesterday the New Oxford American Dictionary named “unfriend” as the top new word of 2009. Unfriend: to boot someone out of your life, either virtually, in real life, or both. The fact that we need a common word for this act may underscore a growing problem we’re having with loyalty these d… Continue
Do you remember when you were in high school and college and all you could think about was the weekend ahead of you? Or the next vacation from school, whether it was Spring Break or Christmas Vacation, when you could just hang out around the house or spend time with your friends. Well, Brittni Carlini, a twenty-year-old college student from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was excited about one of these said vacations. She and her friends were about to go snowboarding.

Functionality is the key word when purchasing furniture. When choosing one piece or an entire floor of tables, desks, chairs, etc. it’s important to consider what function each will serve.
If you have a waiting area that is rarely used (because your staff is so efficient), you would not need chairs that come with a 10-year guarantee, for example. Tables that hold just a couple magazines do not need to meet a weight requirement. On the other hand, if you place all of your awards and trophies in… Continue
