To celebrate my day of mourning 2009..aka my birthday
I decided to indulge my grief and depression with all the foods I’ve successfully cut out of my diet. Allow me to explain. Back in 2006, I dropped from 317 lbs to around 238 lbs, or I went from size 44 pants and xxl/xxxl shirt to a tight 36 pants and large shirt. What happened after that can be summed up with one phrase..I F@#k up!! What I hadn’t realized was that I had cut back too far on my calorie intake. This was causing me to be e…

In the last month or so, I have received many requests for information, as well as orders, for table coverings. Last year I posted several blogs about table coverings. I think it is appropriate to republish these. . . . Are you thinking about having a booth at a trade show?
Are you signed up for a booth at a trade show and you are wondering. . . Now What?
If you answered Yes to either of these questions then I can help!
There are two very important things to consider. What will my display loo…

With Internet usage up by almost 133% in North America since the dawn of the new millennium and almost three quarters of all Americans using the internet on a regular basis it is no doubt that the Web has come to be a mainstay of how we conduct life and business. With the way Websites and Internet based applications have exploded over the last decade and a half, the world has not seen advancement in the wealth and ease of access to information like ever before. There also seems to be nothing tha…

Earlier this week, a long-time friend of our firm, Rich Burd, passed away. Rich has long been a leader in the Lawrence community, helping with Little League Baseball and countless other youth sports. BitWise has had the honor and privilege of working with Rich for many years. We enjoyed his matter-of-fact demeanor and what-you-see-is-what-you-get attitude. Rich was never without a smile.
We’ll miss our friend Rich, for certain.
Our prayers, thoughts and condolences go out to his wife Chris, the…

Owning a business and working for oneself seems to have a lot of perks, right? Why wouldn’t everyone want a flexible schedule, no boss, freedom to make their own decisions, etc?
It’s not as easy as it seems. A lot of people don’t make it through their first year of business with their start up company. Here are 10 common mistakes people make when starting their own business that lead to failure.
1.
Not doing your homework: Before getting into an industry make sure you know the in’s and o…

Mike Mountford, CEO of the $30 million company AllAmericanDirect.com, started a multi-million dollar high-margin division of his business, by anticipating the ‘next needs’ of the market.
Here’s how he did it: Mike has owned a company in the satellite TV industry for over 25 years. Three years ago, a major provider of satellite TV was about to lose their ability to broadcast a certain group of television stations signals. Mike heard this news and actively thought about what he could do to solve…

I am horrible at taking care of my yard. I am pretty amazing at a lot of things, but creating a fantastic green space is not one of them. I’ve got weeds – multiple brands of them, a jungle-worth of random animals, fungus, dying and diseased trees, and of course a litany of insects.
Hey, wanna come over for an outdoor barbeque? Didn’t think so…
Anyways, I decided that next year is the year that I am going to conquer this thing called having the “perfect lawn”. Due to years of neglect, I have a…

I saw the new Michael Jackson documentary this weekend; it was awesome! If you are a fan of Michael Jackson’s music, the two hours that you will spend in the movie theater will be some of the most entertaining time you will enjoy this fall.
It was so entertaining, that the man sitting behind us was tapping his foot, popping his fingers, singing, and DANCING for the entirety of the movie... Yes, the entirety.
The best part of the film is that we get to see MJ when he is not on his ‘A’ game. We…

Many business owners see the need for new furniture, but feel they don’t have it in the budget. Never-been-used isn’t always necessary.
Remanufactured and refurbished furniture looks new, and you can achieve the fresh look at a fraction of the cost of new.
So, how do you determine whether you should 1) buy new, 2) buy refurbished and/or remanufactured furniture or 3) give your own old furniture a facelift?
If you choose to give your own fu…

I've learned plenty of things this year (not that there's anything wrong with it) and one of the most striking is the power of New Media. And not just in some abstract, isn't-this-cool-sense. Most of us, including myself, hang on to things just because it "still works" or "it's not broken". Now, I'll give you a small break on some of this, but you need to determine when it's time to say goodbye to certain pieces of furniture. This applies to both your home and your office!
1. When you leave your office with pain in your arm, neck, or have a headache almost every day.
This is a sign that either your chair is bad, or you need to adjust your personal work surface.
Let's tackle the firs…
