I suppose I should have linked to my blog post on public radio financing already. There I discuss some of these issues. What's curious is that some stations actually have a surplus and ask for money out of habit.

Has anyone looked at NPR's tax filings. How in the world do they get away with getting taxpayers money with all the assets and investments they sit on. The NPR Foundation for tax filing year 2008 sits on almost $249 Million in net assets. They he...

Ah the Simpsons. I have come to the conclusion that to be true to myself and the NPR way i would have to ask for 10 callers to call in with donations of $5.01 before my donation would be effective.

Via HD radio you can tune out the pledge drive via 90.1-2, "the point." It's mostly music and the kind of talk shows that otherwise wouldn't have a healthy home on the FM station, a la Talk of the Nation which used to be on in the afternoons. The...

Contesting the Contests

In the style of Hollywood disaster flicks, October saw the coincidental release of two contests intended to highlight Indiana’s best blogs. One competition, sponsored by Linking Indiana, features sixty-seven candidates divided into ten categories. Despite its name, the Top 50 Indiana Blogs pro… Continue

Wearing Hats in Church

In the few minutes before the procession, I studied the worship space. Rows of pews flanked a long central aisle. Bold architectural lines culminated above a raised corner, forming a radiant starburst. Soon, a groom in a black suit and a bride in a white gown would appear and advance. Only the sea of heads in front of me seemed irregular. Each one was slightly obscured by a spiral of fabric: a kippah, or yarmulke.

Freedom Killed the Video Stars

From my vantage point running a small business in Indiana, it’s impossible to avoid the tremendous array of “opportunities” for additional streams of income. Each is brazenly associated with an incredulous claim: healthy chocolate, superfood fruit juice, free jewelry or the existence of a subconscious blueprint in the millionaire mind. Given the number of programs and the persistence of their promoters, fairly evaluating each is a full-time job. That’s why I am taking on just one of these ventur… Continue

The Ugly and Unsung

Earlier this month, an unemployed 47-year old woman became an instant worldwide celebrity. Her single act was neither famously kind-hearted nor infamously violent. Instead, she waddled up to a microphone on a British television show, made a few sarcastic remarks and then belted out a showtune. Susan Boyle “dreamed a dream.”

Shortcuts to Productivity?

As Americans diligently strive for personal and occupational success, productivity improvement schemes continue to gain momentum and support. Yet, between old-fashioned “know-how” and fancy technological solutions, what is the best strategy in the race for ultimate efficiency?

According to a Wall Street Journal article, Tips for Getting Things Done, there are two separate approaches for improving individual productivity:… Continue

Robby...I read your post about iLG...I found it insightful, well researched, clever, caustic, and fantastically presented...You remind of a young William F. Buckley, if he had been of a more liberal bent..Your summation was brilliant, even if most fans/participants of iLg (MLM) do not get it/or admit it...
