Solving the Financial Crisis

On vacation this week. (First in 3 years). While driving 12 hours to Syracuse I had plenty of time to think about the current financial crisis we are in. I was envisioning what I would do if I was president and the speech I would give to set the tone of my administration.

Here's my plan:

1. Mortgage, Auto, Stock Market crisis.

For mortgages 500,000 or less I am wiping out the balance effective Feb 1, 2009 for all US citizens. For mortgages 500,000 - 1,000,000 I am cutting them in half. Over t… Continue

CIO: Dead in 5 years

Now that I have your attention...

Recently I was having a conversation with a friend (Brian Kovacs) and the topic came up about the CIO role. I have seen a significant shift in the last year with folks in this role.

I have seen a lot of CIO's in transition, as well as the CIO role morphing into a role very different than it was 10 years ago. I've had several conversations over the last 3 months on this and was going to sit down and put all of my observations into this blog to see if anyone agr… Continue

Starting a Business 101, Priorities, Focus

So, starting a business 101. It has been a great year, but a hard one. Nevery had this must fun not sleeping, and constantly obsessed with the business. I've been trying to nail down what is the first priorities of Business 101. Not as easy as you may think. Revenue is job 1 right? What about when revenue get's in the

Hi John,

I just was taking a look at http://vcloudexpress.bluelock.com and I noticed that at least one of the links for pricing (Click here for Pricing Details) takes you to http://thumpdesign.net/bluelock/?page_id=15. I was a little confused when I didn't notice the transition at first and went to bookmark the site.

Otherwise, I like the look and feel and am interested to see how the partnership with VMWare works out. Good luck!

Here are some of the barriers right now.

*having the public vote on video/written essay's where a member can only vote once. Just want to prevent any pitfalls with an online voting contest
*entries filling out online forms/essay's that will get fowarded to us

Everything else seems very easy to work with as an admin on ning.

Thank you! Tod Esquivel

Hi John

Smaller Indiana is a great site for B2B networking, and it looks like you’ve been on the site for sometime now. I’m sure you’ve had the chance to use other social networking sites, so from your experience how do you rate Smaller Indiana? What do you like about the site, the people? What successes in your business can you attribute to networking online vs. in person? Do you see any improvements or features that you would find beneficial on Smaller Indiana?

John,
You might have been more right then you realized when you suggested we call the party the 4,400. As of this morning, we have 4,364 members, we will actually be pretty close to 4,400 by Tuesday night

Hi John. My name is Ginger Kreitl. I just joined Smaller Indiana yesterday to build my network in order to find employment in the Human Resources field. I recently graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University this past spring. I wanted to know if you had any ideas and/or contacts in the field?

Hi John....Do you remember me? I interviewed with you a couple of months ago (referral from Ron Brumbarger) but you had no open positions at the time. Has anything changed?
I'm still looking for the right opportunity but haven't found it yet. I want to thank you for referring me to Time Warner (Barb Hansen). My interview went well but they had no open positions either. Please let me know if you can think of anyone else who could use someone with my background. Thanks, Jim

I started a reply, then thought, hmm, maybe what I need is a remedial Start-a-Biz "001 Primer," as follows.

After repeating to myself for the umpteenth time regarding a corporate decision/strategy, "that's the wrong direction, and this is what should be done or what I'd do," Yes, absolutely, I've felt the START A NEW BUSINESS CALL..

Heck, I'm over 45! I can't make any "40 Under 40 (John, I'll nominate you at the appropriate time)" List, but by Gum I'll beat Colonel Sanders to initiating my start-up!!

Starting a business. Yes and he** yes!!

Then I balk at Reality, Line One: Fill in means of family support for a solo gig.

My first pass: Easy enough. I have friends who have friends who want to start in business -- I had an opportunity last summer, in fact to do just that and it looked promising.

In that instance, from out-of-the-blue, a nice offer and paycheck intervened. That half-a-billion dollar e-marketing e-cog position jammed. Now I'm back, looking at "Line One."

I have one and perhaps two potentially novel internet-based new business ideas. Aside from the flowchart diagrams and business planning documents I've napkin-mapped, what do I do next -- especially as it relates to filling in "Line One?"
