"Great post Nick! Excel also doesn't have the ability to notify you of follow ups tasks and tracking of referral sources. :-)"

Can you spell CRM?

I often joke, most of our customers can't even spell CRM. No, I'm not trying to insult the intelligence of AddressTwo users, but rather the ridiculous over-use of acronyms in any business today. CRM is a term that bears meaning only for a select few computer whizzes who probably invented the term and work hard to educate others on it's meaning in order that they can market their products to them. But, in the interest of reality, let's break it down.

A Dashboard on Business

My wife and I just purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, when we went to the dealership, we were looking for something roomy but with decent gas mileage. Mind you, after the salesman let me drive the V8 Hemi-Powered Grand Cherokee, mileage got demoted in my mind to a mere afterthought. Nonetheless, I asked what it should get. "If you drive it tame, 16 in the city," he told me.

One of the features of this new car that we've used the most has been the rolling-average MPG rating… Continue

Pay Per Tweet - How Bad Can It Be?

Ok, I'm quite positive I wasn't the first Twitter user to think to myself, "wow, what would I have to pay a top tweeter to tweet my link?" Admit it, even if you're a die-hard defender of the notion of unadulterated social media, you can't help but be enticed at the thought of your link in front of 50k followers, and then retweeted, and retweeted. Oh man, I'm salivating. But, despite the potential, this concept is slammed left and right!

The Failure of Outlook as a CRM

In my previous post, I made a generally safe statement: that Excel fails as a CRM. In this post, I expect there may be a few more objections to the premise from some who have successfully used Outlook as their CRM for years. To that end, I would say that it's also true that people have successfully used their car keys as box cutters, but it's less than ideal. Truly, what it boils down to is the fact that the box cutter was all the way in the garage and the package your keys were already in your… Continue

The Failure of Excel as a CRM

As I talk with most small business owners, I find quite often that they realize the benefit of database marketing and they get (at least in part) the concept of CRM, but they lack the technology to implement it. In this article, I want to address the misconception that an Excel spreadsheet can fill a business' need for CRM. In so doing, I hope I can save at least a few of my readers from much angst, and possibly even devastating business loss.

1. ) First, Excel is single-user only.… Continue

Are you going to be at the Southport or Southwest RM's this week? If not, where are you located? Maybe I can stop by and pick it up.

REALLY!? this isn't an April Fools joke, right? :) I attend the Southport, Greenwood, Southwest and East Side Rainmakers. If you are on the northside then dropping it off at Roundpeg would be the best. Thank you SO much!

Nick,
I would focus on LinkedIN and Plaxo. If you want to drive business contacts that is how I would do it. Stay niche.
