I wholeheartedly agree with your points about Jon and Kate (ugh, I am soooo tired of the whole thing and have felt this way since about five minutes after I heard about them.) and other celebrities.
Back in the golden age of Hollywood, the actors were reviled or revered on the basis of their works (or their political party if Congress got involved, damned McCarthy!), not whether or not they lost ten pounds, did something scandalous on Survivor, or such an a** to reporter who wouldn't stop shoving a camera down their throat.
It's no wonder that so many of the celebrities who truly deserve our respect like Sir Anthony Hopkins for years and years of wonderful acting, amazing characters, and fantastic works of art shun the Hollywood spotlight and all the hoop-la that so many of other celebrities thrive off of. And you're right, if we concentrate more on their work and stop following every single move that every one of these chowderheads make (who cares if Starlet X is getting some from Star Y? They'll be split up and dating their next co-star in three months anyway.), we could actually concentrate on something so much more important.....our own lives.
Great blog, Megan, very well said.
