Isn’t it funny what we remember about our grandmothers? My maternal grandmother was an awesome storyteller and writer, along with having an excellent sense of humor. She was a first-rate seamstress and an outdoorswoman to boot. Along with mom, th...

Grandmas Are Forever (A series from my speeches)

Shortly after my parents married (1940s), my grandmother made a green tomato pie for my mom. My mom told us through the years that she cut a slice, ate a bite, and threw the pie away. "It was awful." Kindly, she thanked my grandmother and said, "Thank you for the pie; it was delicious." Of course it was a little white lie, but my mother did eat a bite. My grandmother was so pleased, "Oh, I'm so glad," my mother iterated multiple times when we asked her to repeat the story; "You're the only one w… Continue

More of Children

When my husband's 14-year-old niece was just 4 or 5, she didn't display very good manners at the dinner table. The older siblings, wanting to get her to use better etiquette, gave her an ultimatum. "If you don't eat properly, we're going to send you to Aunt Kay to teach you some manners."

"I don't need no manners!"

Children

A few months ago, I went grocery shopping for a few items. I met a young mother with her 3-year-old daughter. The daughter, riding in a car-basket, appreciated the ingredients I carted, so she struck up a conversation. She told me she was going to be four in a few days, so I remarked, "In case I don't see you on your birthday, I'll wish you happy birthday now." A few minutes later, we said our pleasant good-byes and I walked toward the check-out. Behind me, a young, 3-year-old voice piped out to… Continue

Children

I am a disciplinarian and am relentless! When my husband and I dated, his nieces and nephews had children of their own while ours were adults, unmarried, living on their own. We often gathered at his mother's for holidays. In 1996, we celebrated Christmas at Mom's. I visited with relatives in the kitchen when one of the nieces approached me. "Kay, the children made a mess in the living room."
Now, why did Nancy tell ME? I don't have any children. In fact, one of Nancy's children was in the livin… Continue

Children are so cute.

My brother and sister-in-law babysit occasionally for their grandchildren. A few weeks ago, they babysat 2-year-old Mara. Mara stood in front of the mirror grimacing at her face. Mary saw her and asked, "Mara, what are you doing?"
"I have a pimple." Mary replied, "Mara, you don't have a pimple, you have a beautiful complexion. How did you get such lovely skin?" To which Mara answered, "At the tattoo-parlor."

Seminars are fun and freightening. The key to filling your room is follow-up. I/we have a 13-step process that we walk people through prior to the seminar. The purpose of the proces is to build relationship and trust in prospects. The better you are at working your process the more people will attend. If you would like to learn more, please let me know.

Thank you, Hazel: I have been a member of Toastmasters for awhile now and find it most exhilarating and engaging. Also, I am a member of a speaker's bureau, so I'm sure that NSA membership will be in the near future.

Kaylyn, you might want to go to toastmasters to hone your skills then go to NSA (National Speakers Association) website and joing the Speakers Academy, that will allow you to attend the local meeting until you qualify to be member of NSA. Let me know if I can help.
