Veterans of Valor - Because Freedom... isn't FREE!

As we get ready to celebrate our country's Independence Day, it's important to remember how we got that independence, and thank those who've helped keep us free.

I volunteer for a local not-for-profit called Veterans of Valor. It was started in 2007, by a Marine who was shot in the face, at point-… Continue

The Failed Policy of Social Security

“It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” Those, now infamous, words of Charles Dickens parlayed well with the first quarter of the twentieth century. The United States had just come out of, what was then, the “Great War.” Coupled with the troops return home, the government’s expenditur… Continue

Closing Argument for John McCain

I've created quite the stir on Smaller Indiana over the last year. With less than a week left until election day, this serves as my closing argument for my position.

We are a nation in peril. The economic foundation that has provided many American’s a great opportunity is being attacked. Stocks… Continue

Taxes 101

Suppose that everyday, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the… Continue

What was the reason given for developing the Department of Energy during the Carter administration?

We have spent multi billions of dollars in support of this agency and I am willing to bet not one person who reads this knows the reason given.

It was very simple.

The Department of Energy was instituted to LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL!

Note: In 2008 the budget for this department is now at… Continue

Hi Jim, my name is Shelly and I produce a giant business to business networking event across the Midwest. The event is called The Chocolate Blues and Business Festival and we are going to be in Indy next month. I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the event. I am happy to send you a complimentary VIP pass so you can get it free. We expect no less than 1,500 local professionals to attend. We've been producing this event for 6 years and every city we go to we draw huge crowds and have rave reviews. Hi Jim. My name is Ginger Kreitl. I just joined Smaller Indiana yesterday to build my network in order to find employment in the Human Resources field. I recently graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University this past spring. I wanted to know if you had any ideas and/or contacts in the field?

It is interesting what has happened to the Democratic party. I lived near a NORAD line growing up and remember JFK as an anti-communist/anti-marxist pro capitalist AMERICAN! His economic package was nearly identical to Ronald Reagan's. (Back when JFK was president, Reagan was also a Democrat). I'm afraid with the election coming up just around the corner, we are going to witness (in my lifetime) the sinking of capitalism - no matter if an Obama or McCain win!

1. Please use your real name (first and last) when you sign up, or we cannot open your account

2. Please do not use logos or commercial images for your profile photo

3. Events should be posted in the events calendar

4. You can post pretty much anything you want on your own personal page (self promotion, etc), and you can change the style of your personal profile page to reflect your corporate identification if you so choose.

5. Please keep all comments civil and polite. It's OK to feel strongly about a subject, and it's OK to be critical of ideas, but please refrain from personal attacks of any kind.

If you witness or experience any issues, please contact admin@smallerindiana.com and we will look into the matter.

6. "Blatant self-promotion" is discouraged on SI, and "spam" is not welcome. Please be considerate of your fellow members.

Smaller Indiana is supported by its members, and by corporate sponsors. If you're interested in learning more about sponsorship, please call Pat Coyle at 317 332 7878.
