@Jeb I actually think the b.rox posts are incredibly funny :) Too bad we're going to beat 'em.

I agree most Americans have an arrogant sense of entitlement. My teenage daughter insists a cell phone is a need not a want. Did I teach her that? I suppose I have allowed technology to reassign some of my values. Why do social structures fall into…

Hi Jeb, I'm actually writing this from The Roosevelt Hotel in downtown New Orleans right now. I don't agree with you regarding NOLA trash talk. I've had some amazing fun here giving folks a hard time about the Super Bowl and no one has made fun of…

I didn't see your post until now, Jason. Considering that today is the day that was originally planned for the gathering, it might be too late. I'm OK with Tuesdays. U wanna see if the crowd wants to postpone until tomorrow evening?

They must have gotten better. I ate there a couple times when they opened and the okra was undercooked and slimy and they refused to make oyster po' boys because they didn't want spoilage. I guess I'll have to give them another try. Zydeco's still m…

Ah, WTIC TV Channel 3 and the Ranger Andy Show. Memories of Connecticut and why I now live in Indiana. I couldn't afford a garage in CT. now.

@Rick - thanks so much for the clarification. I didn't check them myself... still pretty stunning, isn't it?! I still read (need to find the source) that half the adults in this country don't pay any taxes. @Yaw - we agree more than we don't, then.…

Oh What a Spoiled People We Are

Ahhh... to be an American in 2010!

Did you know that the majority of people in the U.S. that are below the poverty line have cable TV? In many countries, the average person doesn't even have shoes. We're complaining in this country that our poor don't have broadband Internet access.

(This is when I sound old...)

When I grew up in Connecticut, none of my neighbors had air conditioning. We used to stay in the basement on hot days because it was cooler down there. When my parents' incomes went u… Continue

We're Getting Meaner...

I commented tonight that people are getting meaner online. Comments and tweets are getting more cynical and aggressive. I'm not some innocent bystander... I've challenged folks online to from time to time and have probably been perceived as being mean myself. That's never been my goal, though.

I think it's getting worse. Politics is mean. My far left friends hate my far right friends and vice versa. They hate them! They totally disregard how each was brought up and the circumstances that brough… Continue

Can We Afford to be Safe?

Some common rhetoric spread during the last election was that it was the United States' attitude in the world that drew the ire of terrorists around the world. I say BS. If you grow up in a hostile country with little or no resources, it's easy to look at the West and come to the belief that we're the cause.

As long as we remain a country of wealth in the world, we'll always be the target of terrorism. It has nothing to do with our International efforts. It's the haves versus the have-nots. It… Continue

Buga, Don't Be Mad at Me

My daughter's nickname is buga... short for suga buga of course. Only I call Katie buga.

Katie is 15 and a sophomore at Greenwood. Katie is beautiful. I know that every father says that about his daughter, but my daughter is - of course - different. Everywhere we go, Katie turns heads.

Today we went s… Continue

Hello Douglas,
I joined Smaller Indiana when I got laid off this winter and started networking.
I have since received my real estate license and are also selling auto's for toyota. This site has helped a great deal.
If there is anything I can help you with, please do not hesitate to ask.
See at the next event.

Hi Doug,

I briefly spoke with Pat last week about the new instant message widget that you integrated into the SI site. Is the widget itself something that was created specifically for the ning sites or is it free for all sites to use? I know Meebo just launched a new IM feature as a service, but would really like to integrate the feature into my non-ning site for free. Is there a way to do this?

Any help is very appreciated.

Thanks,

Arik Flanders

If you witness or experience any issues, please contact admin@smallerindiana.com and we will look into the matter.

6. "Blatant self-promotion" is discouraged on SI, and "spam" is not welcome. Please be considerate of your fellow members.
