Hello everyone!! I'm new to Smaller Indiana and I'm really excited to get to know more people that are interested in keeping Indiana residents eating local.

I'm the director of Indiana Foodways Alliance (www.indianafoodways.com) and we strive to promote, preserve and celebrate Indiana culture and food.

We're actually having a food and drink expo on Nov. 22 at Minnetrista in Muncie, Ind. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We've got vendors coming to share their Indiana-made products with the general public. It's a great chance for Indiana residents to see what's right in their backyard!

We've got wine, candy, cheese and several other products coming to support the Foodways message. Being non-profit, we just want to share our love for food and promote awareness...Hope to see you there!

Hey, all -- this Saturday is the last one for most summer/fall farmer's markets. There will be a new winter farmer's market going into Fall Creek Place -- at 25th and Delaware. They'll be open on Saturdays starting in November. Also Binford has posted their winter market hours. Plus, Trader's Point Creamery's winter market, of course.

Hey all....I am new to this group but no stranger to good and innovative food. I wanted to tell you about a local non-profit organization called Comfort Food,
http://www.comfortingfamilies.blogspot.com/ www.comfortingfamilies.org/

Comfort Food exists to help families that are going through medical crisis gain access to good, home cooked, "locally grown" comfort food type meals. If you love food and are interested in helping out a great cause, please contact me. By the way, our fundraiser for next year will feature ALL locally grown foods and the people who grow/provide them. We will be working on an environment inspired by "Outstanding in the Field":

Hey All!

I just moved back to the area a few weeks ago and am a big fan of all types of food (local, organic, slow food, and Roadfood). I've just started a group that celebrates all of the great Roadfood places across the state. If you prefer to skip the chains and fast food and fine great local eats, then you should join this group. I'm hoping we can share great food locales from Indy and beyond and maybe even visit a few as a group!

When trying to determin restaurant stars (as in "one of only two five star restaurants in the state" you have to determine who awarded the stars. Often, they mean very little.

If you're interested in James Beard nominees (one of the most reliable ways the industry recognizes excellence) there were two in Indiana last year -- Oakley's Bistro in Indianapolis and Restaurant Tallent in Bloomington. Joseph Ducuis aside (it's good, but not the best), Tallent is probably the best restaurant in the state right now. I'd put up there also L'explorateur in Indy, Oakley's Bistro, and RBistro right now.

All-
If you're not already familiar, some friends of mine own an organic/locally grown delivery service called Farm Fresh Delivery (www.farmfreshdelivery.com). It's a great service that allows you to go online and customize your delivery order. Your order starts out with a fruit/vegetable bin (you can customize the contents and size depending on whether you are feeding a family of 4 or just yourself) and then you can add other contents (breads from Scholars Inn, granola and other goods from Feel Good Foods, meats, dairy, jellies, etc.) It's super convenient b/c they deliver your groceries to you weekly or bi-weekly (different areas of town on certain days of the week), and you have the peace of mind that your food is organic, fresh, and locally grown. check it out!!!

Local food rocks! Is anyone else sad that the Farmer's Markets are coming to a close?

Hi, I am a foodie fond of cooking, cookbooks, dining out, and just food in general and would love to join this group.

I enjoy out of the way places as well as the gourmet spots. Have your been to Joseph DeCuis in Roanake, IN just outside Fort Wayne? One of only two 5 star restaurants in the state (been trying to find out what the other one is) and they grow or purchase local organic ingredients. Known for Kobe style beef, Amish chicken, and so on.

I work for a nonprofit full time and we just published our own cookbook with 100 recipes for $10 to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Part time, I am a life skills coach and one of my students, Jeannette Footman, runs a German pastry and catering service featuring Kaffeeklatch on Sunday afternoons in Broad Ripple.

A few years ago, I attended meetings for the start of the Slow Food movement here in Indy, and this summer, I traveled to Italy, the home of that same movement, and enjoyed wonderful dining at an Inn over 100 years old in Varallo, Sesia in the heart of Piedmont. What a wonderful time!

Thanks,
Elaine

Hi, I work with low income youth and families to learn about the local food system in community gardens & 38th & Meridian Farmers' Market. We always welcome people who want to get their hands dirty for a good cause. Let me know if you're interested.
