Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I like to visit Mexican grocery stores in the area and find new ingredients. If you don't watch "Mexico, one plate at a time" on PBS from Chef Rick Bayless of Chicago, he is very good at demystifying traditional Mexican dishes.

Today I picked up some fun new ingredients for my kitchen:

- Acheota paste - A red paste used in all sorts of savory dishes
- Creama fresh, quite possibly the best 'sour cream' I've ever had hands down
- Fresh Masa (corn) tortas and tortiallas for many different things
- Fresh cheese in stringy form used for all sorts of dishes or a great snack.
- Authentic hot sauce

I don't know what to do with all of this, but the ingredients are fabulous by themselves and I can't wait to substitute them into normal dishes for that twist that fusion cooking can sometimes make indelible.

My wife and daughter and I love Mexican food. Thanks for the list. I've never been big on sour cream until I had sour cream in some of the smaller Mexican restaurants.
