Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

We bought a house this summer and I spent the last couple of months ripping out woody weeds, building a huge compost area, and preparing the very depleted soil for planting. I plan on planting a small fruit grove, vegetables and berries. Anyone else here looking at supplementing their grocery/market trips with food from the yard?

We have 2 big raised beds out back that supply us with veggies all summer long! Lettuces, peas, tomatoes, herbs, zucc, squash, swiss chard, peppers, cucumbers and pole beans. We also have raspberries! I wish that I had more room! I tried to organize a gardening coop with some neighbors but it did not work out. I still think that coop gardening would be an awesome thing! Good luck with your garden!

How's it done? Seems to have been an odd year - basil seems to have been very slow.

our basil was slow, as well, this year. not sure why.

Sure do, Neal! And loving every minute that I get to spend in the gardens. Next year, I'm starting a Micro Farm on some property that I grew up on in northern Indiana. The gardening/Micro Farm bug bit me hard. :)
