How Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) Is using the game of Thomas the Tank Engine to help autistic kids identify emotions.

Lynda, ironically I was just accepted to participate in the parent mentor program through ASK. I have literally spoken to parents for the past 11 years or so regarding raising a child w/a disability as well as advocated within the school system successfully during his education. I am looking forward to becoming an official parent mentor.

I will be speaking to the VP of the group this week and for those of you that have expressed an interest, I will give the rest of the board your contact information. Thanks to all of you wonderful people that have expressed a genuine desire to help!!!

I am a clinical child psychologist. I have worked with ADHD/ADD kids throughout my career. I recently found a program for increasing working memory which has had great results with research behind it. It has helped ADHD kids. I want to get a wait list of kids with ADHD/ADD whose families are interested before I embark on the training and begin offering it here.
Please contact me if you are interested. Call me at 641-7794 or email me at charles.shinaver@gmail.com. Use the subject line: "Interested in Working Memory Treatment". You can see my website at www.charlesshinaver.com.

Thanks,

ASHLEY, it seems we should talk! I'm with About Special Kids, (ASK).

ASK helps families face the challenges of medical and daily life for children with special needs from birth through age 22. ASK serves children with needs ranging from learning and behavioral health issues to significant disabilities and life-threatening illnesses.

ASK helps families navigate health insurance options, state and federal programs, school-based programs, and community-based services.… FREE of charge (especially helpful in this economy.)

ASHLEY & PHILIP: ASK provides trainings in public health options and in Article 7 /IEP planning. Check out the schedule posted on our training calendar on our website: aboutspecialkids.org.

ALSO, if you have 8 or more people, we can hold a training for your group. Please contact Cindy at cindy@aboutspecialkids.org and ask about scheduling a training.

PHILIP: You may find this very helpful. Unique to ASK is our parent liaison staff, all parents who have children with special needs, dedicated to helping other families. This special bond often finds ASK parent liaisons going to great lengths to help families cope and overcome the challenges their children face.

I'm not sure where I fit in here just yet, I don't serve on any broads or speak to groups, But will talk about Autism to any one that will listen. I have battled with the schools where it concerns my Grandson who has Asperger's Syndrom.

I often speak to groups on the topics of Medicaid, Medicaid Waivers, SSI, special needs trusts and guardianships. I would be more than happy to contribute to your group in any way you believe would be helpful. My email is ceslinger@eslingerlaw.com.

As mentioned in the group. Mass Mutual has a Special Care Planning unit that specializes on all these topics. Shoot me an email at tbradburn@finsvcs.com to further discuss this. Talk to you soon.

I am a board member with Harvesting Capabilites (formerly Handicapable) in Peru Indiana. The group, rather new, provides resources, support, education, etc. to those within our community that are living with a disability or raising a child(ren) with a disability.

Are there any members here that would be interested in speaking to our group about waivers, SSI, etc.?

We are planning on adding additional resources for families but the vast majority of the group at this point are adults (45+) whom are disabled and resources, financial planning on limited budgets, etc are always a great topic of discussion, as well as accessibility.

Thank you in advance.

Trevor, thank you for starting this group.

I am a founding member of a charter school that is currently moving through the charterning process. The school will be geared toward special needs children, who many times do not have their educational needs meet in tradtitional environments. A special emphaiss will be placed on children on the autism specturm.

I have a special interest in this area because I have a son on the autism spectrum. I am also a financial professional that works with some special needs families, as are many other members in the group.
