We want your help to promote Fall Travel in Indiana

Thanks for joining the Indiana Leaf Cam group. Our goal is to promote Fall Travel here in Indiana, and we need your help. Like many other organizations, we need to maximize our impact and want to reach out to all Smoosiers (members of Smaller Indiana) and ask for your help. Tourism is big business in Indiana, attracting more than 62 million visitors and generating more than $10 billion in economic impact each year. Indiana's tourism industry employs more 257,000 Hoosiers! Here's where you come in. We're looking for Smoosiers to start making noise online about Indiana. We want you to blog, tweet and share photos about your experiences, your favorite events and attractions, and everything you love about the fall in Indiana.

We've started the #LeafCam hashtag on Twitter and the LeafCam tag on Flickr. You can also blog about the Leaf Cam or join our Facebook Group and tell us about your travels in Indiana. Just be sure to link off to visitindiana.com or visitindiana.com/leafcam/

In order to win one of the prizes, simply link off to VisitIndiana.com or VisitIndiana.com/LeafCam/ on Twitter, Facebook your Smaller Indiana blog or a personal blog. Then post a link to that Tweet/Status/Blog in the contest discussion group below!

Each year, the Indiana Office of Tourism Development launches the Leaf Cam. This year, we've put webcams in 5 different locations throughout Indiana to let you know when the leaves are starting to change - that's the perfect time for a Fall Getaway!

This year's Leaf Cam locations are:

- Hilltop Cabins in Brown County (Nashville)
- French Lick Resort (French Lick)
- The Fort Golf Course (Indianapolis)
- Historic Corydon (Corydon)
- Spring Mill State Park (Mitchell)

Indiana’s Thanksgiving-themed locales

Tomorrow is Thanksgsiving, so I thought I might highlight a few of Indiana’s Thanksgiving-themed locales. If you think of some that I missed, please chime in with a comment. Plymouth, Indiana Our state is a little too far west to claim many ties to the pilgrims and Indians of Massachusetts. But we do have a town named [...]

Indiana’s First Signature Wine Unveiled

Raise a glass and toast the latest news from Indiana’s growing wine industry. The Indiana Wine Grape Council unveiled Indiana’s first signature wine on November 24 during a ceremony at the Statehouse. The honor goes to Traminette, a fragrant, floral white wine made with a hybrid grape that flourishes in Indiana’s climate and soil. A small [...]

Fall is beautiful here in Switzerland County! Vevay is decorated to the max with pumpkins and scarecrows, with corn stalks wrapped around all the telephone poles. All our "Scarecrow Decorating Contest" entries are on display around town as well, and the stores and restaurants are decked out for the season. As I was driving down "Vevay Hill" (we locals call it) this morning, the leaves were abundant with color with some falling down around you like it was snowing in color. I LOVE this time of year!

It's so easy to miss what right in your backyard. At least a couple times a week I try to take my puppy for a walk at Eagle Creek park. During the fall it's even more beautiful. I like to travel around Indiana during the fall as well, but why not take advantage of what's right around the corner, too?

My favorite fall driving tour is to take I-65 south to the Nashville/Bloomington exit, take SR 45 over to Bloomington, have lunch at the Irish Lion, and then take SR 46 back to Nashville, and then back home. A great way to spend a day.

Three places to visit during the Fall. The entire Whitewater Valley will be ablaze this season. You can find pastoral farmsteads, winding roads and streams, historic architecture, some of Indiana's oldest settlements, great recreation and scenic drives to match any in Indiana. Hop on the new Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway and travel SR 1 from Hagerstown to Cambridge City to Connersville, then jump over to SR 121 to Laurel and then US 52 to Metamora, Brookville and West Harrison, then a short trip in Ohio to Cleves and back to Lawrenceburg. To complete a scenic loop take SR 101 north from Brookville to Liberty and Richmond. You won't regret this trip.

A second excursion goes west to Attica. Visit Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve just northwest of this Wabash River town. The Wabash River Corridor is a beautiful area. Head south from Attica to Portland Arch Narture Preserve for another unique natural feature in the Indiana landscape.

A third option is heading to Anderson Falls, just south Hartsville between Columbus and Greensburg on SR 46.

These are easily to get to for Central Indiana Smoosiers. Stop along the way at some great Hoosier restaurants as well.
