Making people and ideas findable

I was discussing server power and cooling issues with a couple of small business owners this week. Anyone out there running into power and cooling barriers?

My experience is that the server rooms for these business are too hot and it's causing the servers to shut down. I have not heard anyone complain they are out of power.

I would agree with Brian on that it is more the cooling side than power. The power problem that I see the most, seems to be the lack of true redundancy. The racks are redundant down to the UPS, but not out to the facility. This is mainly in business that host their own IT, but lease their building with really no option to add the lines into the building from the street. Even if they could get an additional line in they are usually on the same grid, so it is still a losing battle.

Interesting. We've had four customers in the last year whose landlords would not allow them to add any more power into their leased space.

You're absolutely right Mike, a secondary power feed is hard to come by, even at most of the colocation facilities in Indy. Only a couple have multiple power feeds into the building.
