We went through KidsFirst and they often have classes as well as a list of books that could be helpful. I'm not sure if they have anything scheduled for this fall but it is worth a call.

I've been in contact recently with some amazing people.

Look into JHDJ. They Specialize in Domestic and International Adoptions. It's a law firm run by women.

Adoptions of Indiana might be another place you may want to check out for classes.

I hope that helps :)

I am so excited to have so many of you interested in this group! Thank you Ashley Anne for your unique prospective that you bring here - We are pursuing an open adoption and truly care about and love our birth mother (even though we don't know who she is yet!) Also, thanks for the information that November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

We are working with IAC here locally. Is anyone aware of any classes that you can take (similar to ones those who get pregnant can take) on parenting and infant skills? My husband and I raised his cousin's son for a few years, but he was older (age 5-8) when he came to us and I'm apprehensive about the day to day of an infant.

Also, please share any comments or pose questions that you will. I'd really like this to be a safe, open forum to exchange ideas, thoughts, questions and concerns.

I wanted to post a comment here, This isn't my normal account I'm having some issues trying to log into my other one.

I am a birth mother. And I applaud you all for wanting to adopt.

I suggest getting in touch with Saint Elizabeth's. I'm getting ready to start volunteering there.

Also November is National Adoption Awareness Month. So get involved where you can :o)

My husband and I adopted our son 5 years ago. It is truly a blessing and we can't imagine not having him in our lives. We are blessed to have several great agencies right here in Indiana that can help you with your journey. Be sure to attend any workshops etc that they provide. It gives you an idea of what to expect.

My husband and I adopted a "special needs" girl last year. I am currently a foster parent trainer for Children's Bureau and work part time as the communications director of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. I also write freelance for a local magazine and websites. My life as a mother to our daughter really has been a challenge at times, but we are really just starting to see her little personality grow. She has some really scarey sounding diagnosis'. But when the day is done, she is just our little girl.

I also worked in special needs adoption for years...so I am happy to share what I know professionally, but I am also willing to share what I have learned personally on our adoption journey.

Yay! Welcome new members! My husband and I are finishing up our paperwork to turn in to the agency and hope to do that this weekend. Although we signed up two years ago, we had put it on hold to take care of a minor aged family member, so it feels like starting all over again! Please feel free to share your experiences, questions, concerns. I'm anxious to hear from others! Hope you all are well and thanks for joining!

My wife and I are contemplating adoption in the near future. Thought joining this group would help us learn from what others have experienced.

Hello! I noticed that there was no group for those of us on our quest to being adoptive parents. Therefore, I wanted to create a space for those who are starting to look into it, going through it or have gone through the process to get together and communicate and support one another!
