Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I thought it might be good to start with figuring out where we served in the military and how we serve our business community here in Indiana.

Hello fellow Vets!
I served in the USAF from 1997-2001. My duty station was at Hurlburt Field, Florida. I was assigned to the Command and Control Warrior School. Great location and mission.

I served in the US Navy (nuclear propulsion), from 92 to 94 when the doctors said go home. Loved every minute of it.

Looks like I may be the old guy here. I served in the U.S. Army 1968 to 1970 but spent the time in Schwienfurt Germany.
Finished as a Sgt E5

Active duty Air Force from 1982 to 1992. I worked Electronic Warfare, most of that time with the 354th TFW out of Myrtle Beach, SC (tough duty i know, but someone had to keep the beach and those golf courses secure!), with a short tour to KFIA in Saudi Arabia from August 1990 to March 1991. Still love those Warthogs and their drivers (thanks guys).

Navy from 82 - 93. Got out as a FireControlman 1st Class (radar/computer tech E-6). After a couple of years out, went into the Indiana National Guard as an NBC NCO. Did that for 3 years and thought I was finished with the military forever. Went back into the Navy Reserve in 2006 and was commissioned last year. I am now the world's oldest Ensign and will probably stay until I'm 60.

Nice to meet all of you.

I served approx 20 years in the Army, including a combat tour in Vietnam but none in the Middle East. I started as a private in the Infantry and retired as a Major in the Field Artillery. There are many parts of it that I still miss, but also many that I never want to do again.

Thanks to all of you for your service to our Nation.

After Navy boot camp (part of the graduation band for our class) and corpsman training in San Diego I was sent packing cross country to Charleston, SC where I spent 2 years working on ICU/CCU in the naval hospital beginning in '85. From there I was sent up the coast to Camp Lejune, NC to become a "Devil Doc" and proudly served with the Marines until '89. I went on 1 float to the Med on the USS Shreveport and Honduras before returning to finish my tour as a medical instructor on base.

I was in the Air Force and mainly served at Bitburg AB, Germany, from 1987-1990. I was a member of the 36th TFW, 525 AMU, responsible for the repair and maintenance of the cockpit instruments and flight controls on the F-15 fighter jet. Some of my most memorable experiences were traveling throughout Norway, Denmark, France, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Switzerland, etc. When the ad read, "join the armed services and see the world," I certainly did a fair share of it!

I served in the US Army from 1974 to 1977. I was the first to enlist under Stripes for Skills in the Indianapolis, IN area. I went through basic training as an E3 and was then promoted to E5 when I arrived at Ft. Mac in Atlanta where I served as an Illustrator. A year later I was "selected" to become the Illustrator for the Chief of Staff of the Army -- whew, try putting that title on a business card. What an honor to work directly for the top guy in the Pentagon! I sometimes still find it hard to believe I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with the Chief, the Secretaries of the Army and Defense and participate in things on the hill and go to the White House. Generals Weyand and Rogers were awesome leaders and great men to serve under.

Now I continue to serve my customers helping them communicate their message. I use graphic design and illustration to help businesses make the complicated simple.

Glad to be a part of this group with other veterans.
