Historic Energy/Climate Bill (ACES - HR 2454) Passes US House
The American Clean Energy & Security (ACES) Act is the most comprehensive energy reform package ever brought before Congress and, for the first time in US history, would make a major dent in cutting national greenhouse gas emissions. The bill prevailed 219 - 212 on Friday, June 26, with Hoosier Congressmen Baron Hill and Andrew Carson voting in favor.
While in need of improvements, the ACES bill (HR 2454), if it succeeds in the Senate, would jump-start the transformation of America`s energy economy toward one that is renewable, efficient, clean, and competitive and at last begin to address the transcendent environmental challenge of the 21st century - global warming. Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) just introduced the "Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act of 2009."
The bill has many provisions that activists like you have been pushing for--including reductions in old, dirty coal technology and carbon cuts that scientists say are necessary.
The Kerry-Boxer bill is a positive first step to kick off the climate debate in the Senate, but we have to defend the good provisions, to ensure fiscal responsibility, and to define a cap on global warming pollution.
Call your senators today--toll free--and tell them to support a bold climate and energy bill with steep cuts in global warming pollution and provisions that crack down on old, dirty coal power plants:

- I poked my St. Rep on HB 1306 2 days ago - His staff just replied that "The bill did not get an initial hearing and did not make it through the legislative process" Happy Earth Day HEC and do you have a Twitter feed?

The latest FREE issue (Nov/Dec) of Indiana Living Green just came out (Whole Foods, Bloomingfoods, Global Gifts, Goose the Market, City Market, Marsh, etc)... While we don't talk politics in the magazine, we do offer lots of tips for protecting the environment and turning towards the green side.
