Making people and ideas findable

I got a hankerin' for some Chinese last night. I know my fave spots in Evansville (Taste of China, Golden Buddha), and China Wok in Petersburg is so awesome it's worth going out of your way for. But I'm CLUELESS about good spots in Indy! Yelp.com users seem to favor some place called Hong Kong. I've asked the Twitosphere, but y'all strike me as a more trustworthy panel of judges, and certainly haven't steered me wrong so far. What's the word, Smoosiers?

Depends on where you work/live and what kind of Chinese food you're looking for.

I like 8 China Buffet at 82nd and Allisonville (in the Trader Joe's plaza). They have a wide variety, plus they have some excellent sushi and nagiri (piece of fish on rice).

There's another Chinese place at 38th and Shadeland, although I don't remember the name. Their egg foo young is fantastic, and the gravy is actually yellow, not brown. Brian Huff's father-in-law started the place (Brian is a Smoosier).

I'm more of a Thai food guy myself though, and I know where all the good Thai places are.

Ooh, I do enjoy some Thai too. Sawasdee up on 86th is where it's at for me.

I like Sawasdee, but the best Masaman Curry I've had is at Thai Spice in Greenwood/south Indy on County Line Road, just across from the Greenwood Mall. And I hear a lot of great things about Thai Smile, but haven't had a chance to make it yet.

Thai Smile on Allisonville north of 96th is awesome!!!

I am just looking for some good sushi that does not cost an arm and a leg! I am open to trying new food but with sushi... you just never know LOL

I have had the eel at forty five degrees on Mass Ave - it was amazing.

Any ideas? I don't really like Thai food because I don't do well with spicy food of any kind. Mostly I like just seaweed, veg, seafood sushi...

My wife and I really enjoy Sakura's at like 71st and Keystone. (7201 N Keystone Ave Indianapolis, IN 46240) We get a sushi sampler which comes with a lot of sushi, salad, and soup for like $30 total for both. We never walk away hungry, and we've probably eaten there 30 times and never had a bad experience. I will say that I've had marginally better sushi at other restaurants, but for the price as it compares to quality and value, I've not found a better place than Sakura.

Totally agree with Eric on the Thai Spice, fabo Pad Thai. I like this little hole in the wall called the Bamboo House at Emerson and Thompson road - in the strip mall next to Radio Shack. They have a $3.99 all you can eat lunch buffet which is good. I love their Hot & Sour soup, best I've had in town.

You mean there's a Thai buffet here in town? Awesome!!

Thai Taste has buffet diner every Thursday; 1st Thursday of the month its all vegetarian - around 6pm its already booked.
I like Sawasdee as well. BUt... honestly... try Thai food in Chicago - very close to real Thai food experience

The Chinese place by 38th and Shadeland is Foon Ying. My FIL opened up the restaurant in the mid 80's and has since sold it to another man, but he also sold all of his recipes, so the egg foo young will still be the same as Erik remembers.

My wife and I really like Mark Pi in Nora (86th and Westfield-ish). It's a true sit down restaurant and their shrimp toast is AWESOME!

There's also The Journey. It's a huge buffet on 96th St. in front of the Sam's Club/Menards. They have a wide selection of food and a nice sushi bar.

The Forbidden City is another place my wife's family likes to go. It's in Keystone near the Barnes and Noble.

As for Thai, we love Sawasdee! We've also found Thai Orchid on 82nd right near the I69 exit. Beware, though. If you get the Thai hot...it's gonna be a doozy!

Mark Pi's in Nora is great.......

an awesome, authentic, hole-in-the-wall type of place is at 116th and Rangeline/Westfield.... Sichuan..... oh man....it's good (I like the off-menu food better than the small buffet) and it's very reasonable.

I agree on Sichuan. I've never eaten off the menu, but the the lunch buffet is great and it's like $5
