Check out the first installment in a short video series about the real faces of the American health care debate. This first one I shot of a 62-year-old man in Evansville, Indiana, who was saddled with a $39,000 hospital bill due to what looks an awful lot like insurance fraud.

View the video, or share stories of your own here. I'm looking for more subjects for this series. So please get in touch if you're interested.

With Obama dropping the public option, what direction is HC reform going to go?

It is a privilege. I still believe that it should be a right. Do I believe that FREE healthcare should be a right? No. But I believe that AFFORDABLE healthcare for all should be a right. BTW, the information that was passed out which lets you know the public health care options available for low or no income people, is no longer correct. HIP no longer takes individuals, no matter how low your income. They now have room for families only. As a matter of fact, on that matrix, that was the only option for individuals.

I missed the debate but agree with Ann that "the expectations need to change". In a society of business frequently more ill health is created because of the unneeded stress that business itself can create. Enjoying business like some people enjoy playing the stock market I would call healthy, until all other Americans who are not interested in the business of health care, suffer. Most people believe that they are entitled to the best health care, but the most advanced health care is generally more expensive; and not necessarily the best. Being healthy; diet, exercise, relaxation and opening flows of blocked energy in side the body will prevent and cure disease. Today we view health care as "fix us" when we need to "prevent us"; by continually "fixing ourselves" as we carry on through life. An unhealthy car that is not upkept will cost more and/or die sooner than a car that has regualar oil changes, the cost of regular upkeep is where the business comes into play and unless we need to know everything about everything, or have enough money to not have to worry about money, then we are forced to trust those who are making money from our ill health, or our fear of ill health.

The debate was informative. I believe that health care is a right, but with that right comes responsibilities as well. How do we change the mind set of Americans? We need to change the expectations of most Americans from someone else "taking care of me" to "how can I be the healthiest I can be? Unfortunately, the move from a sense of entitlement to an activist mindset is a large leap.
As one of my mentors once said: "GOod health is just hte slowest rate of dying."
