Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I had seen a commercial where Procter & Gamble (?), was using a landfill's methane gas and turning it into energy for their plant operations. If this is true doesn't America have a massive untapped energy source????

Tonight was the night to be in Bloomington for the launch of "Green Drinks." This is a loose orgnization and movement that has expanded to many cities across the nation. The idea is to get together to meet like-minded people, share ideas, do some business networking, and listen to a short presentation.

The Upland Brewery banquet facility was packed. Upland was pouring their locally crafted beer at no charge, and putting out some fabulous munchies. In return, we were asked to put our beer dollars towards a donation for Sycamore Land Trust.

We got to hear from Bill Brown, IU's first sustainability "czar," on some of his building projects. B-ton is so happy that IU is finally paying attention to sustainability issues.

Maybe you'll join us for Green Drinks next time. I'll keep everyone posted on when we'll meet again. If you want more info go to www.greendrinks.org.

Jeff, I am SO happy to see you here. As a preservationist, who is also a greenie, I have been preaching the good conservation sense of keeping original windows, repairing them to make them more efficient. And trying to explaing that not having to use energy to manufacture new windows, ship them, and landfill old ones is also green. I'm glad you also have the idea that maintaining original wooden windows is green. Hurrah. I'm also the architectural reviewer for Meridian Street Preservation Commission so I'm happy to have a contact for window repair.

Happy New Year!

I would like to share some moments from this time in 2008. Greenhouses and conservatories are a place where I go to honor mother nature. I hope you enjoy.

Cheers!

Hello-

If anyone would like more information on how you can help reduce the carbon footprint your company leaves for future generations, let me know. My company is a FSC Certified commercial printer. We will be utilizing "Green" energy in the first quarter of 09'. The impact of using recycled papers or products from managed forestery for marketing campaigns, product information and direct mail is larger than most people know. Drop me a note for more information.

Beth, I think Indiana has miles to go to be much more than a "green wannabe" state. Or maybe its just my area that does little to foster even recycling, let alone green construction or anything else. Our Governor proposes new roads being built do those new roads include any mass transit plans or bike paths? Why not pass a law banning plastic bag use in stores? That would be a good place to at least start. I think people really want to do something, but unless they are prodded and educated from the top down, little is going to happen.

I'm in CO right now wher I loved for 23 years, and visiting my son and daughter-in-law. The green movement is so strong here. In fact, it's a way of life for a lot of people. When I was in the Denver airport in Xmas eve, there were lots of signs for universities specializing in degrees with a green emphasis. There's an awesome bus system that runs up and down the Front Range, (the strip on the Eastern side of the Rockies that runs form Colorado Springs almost to Wyoming), and a light rail system that covers a lot of miles as well. Green housing that looks like traditional housing abounds here. I'm not a huge fan of tract housing, but if it's going to be done, it should be right. If anyone needs resources that they can tap into from CO, I may have them, so just send a comment my way.

Greener Indiana, now there's an idea that I can embrace. The idea has been a long time coming in IN, but maybe it's finally taking hold?
