Welcome CJ! Chris Spangle was suppose to introduce us over a year ago. Now he's gone to Libertarian Land! Kope to get to meet you soon!

My Good News!

Yesterday I was a little strapped for funds and debated on whether or not to go to church because I might not have gas to take my son to work today (Monday). Today is payday and I did not want to be left gas-less and out in the cold .

I convinced myself to go on to church by telling myself that God would take care of it. My reasoning was that I would get there and back on a wing and a prayer So, I went.

After church, when the red lgas light ight came on, I stopped at a gas station and gave the clerk $2.00 to get me home.

When I was about to pump the gas a man approached me from behind and said as he was stuffing a $5.00 bill in my hand. "Here, take this. You are not going to go far on $2.00." Shocked, I replied, "Sir, You don understand. I don't really need it!" He said, as he swiftly walked away, "No! You keep it! Wherever it is you gotta go, you won't get there on $2.00""

He got in his car and left!

After making a couple of stops while I was thinking of how I could bless others, it dawned on me. God did take care of me. He made a way! And, I recognized it! It came in the way of an angle in the gas station that place $5.00 bucks in my hand that I immediately added to the gas tank. I am so blessed!

I just went to church on on faith and God saw me through.

What more can I say?

Here's my exciting news - and it just happened!

Louis Begnel has been so kind as to start a group in support of the mission of Operation "OpenUP!".

See: http://www.smallerindiana.com/group/cellphonecollectiondrivers

Here is a copy of a message I sent ll my friends on SI.

I encourage you to please join and then become a "DRIVEr"! You can be a driver at work, you can be a driver at church. You can be a driver at you kid's scout meeting. You can "driver" through you kitchen drawers, your garage boxes or even under your bed! Please send the above link out to your friends list here on SI. Everyone has an old cell hone sitting around!

And guess what! You get me for free. If you need me speak to your group about the purpose of Operation "OpenUP!" and why we need phones, I will be happy to plan a date with you.with you! I also work with several other outreach programs in the city of Indianapolis and can help in connecting you with those you would like to help.

There will be two upcoming opportunities to drop off your old and unused cell phones with batteries and chargers:

1) Referral group January meeting

January 6, 2009 at 6pm – THE OLD TOWN ALEHOUSE Group meeting to network and build professional relationships. Organized by Trevor Bradburn

2) Thursday, January 15 - ZING Restaurant, 543 Indiana Ave. Luncheon at 1 p.m.

If any one would like to coordinate any other collection drives or had phones adn would like to get them to me, call 317-605-8584.

I thank everyone for their support!

MY GOOD NEWS!

I have been so blessed as to have found a virtual community that gives me so much human pleasure. It's as if you are all right there before me giving me hugs.

Thank you SI and guess what - I hug you BACK!

Thanks Nicki for providing this outlet. I was busting at the seams with joy wanting to spread my good news. Guys, I have known Nicki for a while and have only ever had good vibes from her.

Can't wait to meet you, Nicki!

In the midst of a tough time for many people around the world, remember that the holiday season is here. Take the time to count your blessings. Reach out to someone who may be less fortunate than you. Give to a worthy cause. There are a lot of horrible things that happen in this world, but there's also a lot of good out there too.

Nicki,
What a great idea for a group! I just read the email (okay, I'm a little slow at times). Wat to go!

Ha, Eric! "Chaos at the Farm"...and if someone wonders about why...they need to get out to the country more often and see where their meat comes from --and how! ;~) Done my share of bull chasing years ago.
This all goes back to why the local farmer's markets are SO darned wonderful...the numbers we have in Indy are terrific, especially for a city that some say "doesn't get it!" Who can't say it's better to have your meat come from the grass fields in the next county over, instead of from the newly slashed and burned rainforests in S.A.? OK,to get off this soapbox I'll say how EXCITING it is to have both Trader's Point Winter Market (just north of 86th and Moore Rd, Zionsville) AND the new Indy Winter Market at 24th and Central in Indy... If you've not been to either, you are missing a wonderful Saturday morning tradition!

@Lynn, your reminder about roosters and hens made me laugh (I used to work in that industry, and this weekend, I even explained to my youngest daughter why our supermarket eggs won't turn into chickens). This all reminded me of the joke where the city slicker started his own ranch. He bought 50 female cows and 50 bulls. . .

@paul Cool pic!

@Andy How exciting that must be! You deserve it!

@Lynn I love hearing about your roosters! It will be interesting to see the different things that excite everyone.

Definitely sounds recycled to me...I will be at the Art Center on Thursday and will look up your award-winning pieces!
Andrew Ball Comment by Andrew Ball on December 7, 2008 at 11:30am
Lynn - you're right, I do know that about the feathered flock.

Yes the pieces are on display. It's the IAC's annual student show going on now through January 25. Mine are made from cast iron. In a sense they are recycled because we melted down broken steam radiators and other old cast iron equipment.
