Making people and ideas findable

Hi everyone,
So I have a bit of a personal question here and I thought I'd ask all of the lovely ladies in this group. I figured you all would have some great thoughts to share with me. Come along and dream with me.

My fiance and I are planning an August wedding, but more importantly (wink and smile), we're planning our honeymoon. We've got lots of ideas for where we'd like to go; although we're leaning in certain directions, we haven't decided definitively on anything yet. We're a pretty frugal couple, but we'd also like to take a special vacation since it is our honeymoon.

Does anyone have ideas, thoughts, words of wisdom, etc. that you'd like to share with me as we plan our dream honeymoon? Any specific destinations you'd recommend? Any websites that offer great travel deals? We've already gotten some great input from family and friends. I'm just trying to get more ideas, as there might be something we haven't yet considered.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and ideas!

We went to Jamaica at a Sandals Resort. It was awesome. We booked it through Robert at www.beachbumvacation.com They even let us register our honeymoon as a gift registery for the wedding. People can give money towards your honeymoon. It was really cool. Plus, Robert gave us a free upgrade. So when we got to the Resort, we had our own butler that greeted us. They gave us the royal treatment.
It was an amazing experience!

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! I was married last October and our dream honeymoon was on the Hawaiian island of Kauai - it was everything we hoped for and more. Although our tickets were the bulk of our expense (we booked last year, before all airlines dropped their prices), we found an extremely beautiful and affordable place to stay. It was called the Kauai Banyan Inn, and we absolutely loved it. The price was fantastic, we had a gorgeous view from our room, our host was so helpful and gracious, and the place had so many amenities. We had a fully stocked kitchen which cut down on cost, and the owner had TONS of equipment that you could borrow - boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach towels, you name it. She even had DVDs and music for nights when you stayed in.

Some great resources I utilized while looking for honeymoon ideas were Trip Advisor and Vacation Rentals by Owner. Trip Advisor gives very thorough reviews from members, and really helps to direct people toward a location/vacation that suits their needs, i.e. honeymooners, kids, retirees, adventurists. VRBO is a community for people to list their vacation rentals, which is a huge money saver if you prefer not to have the resort experience. It's a great little gem when you want to research places to stay.

Good luck! Here are a couple photos from our honeymoon.

Hi Kris,
Thanks so much for the information. Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous! It looks like you had a beautiful honeymoon. I think we're getting closer to making a decision, and all of this great input from friends really helps! It's good to get ideas from other people because you can learn about some really cool things.

Thanks again!

Laura

Congratulations Laura! How beautiful.

My husband and I are pretty nontraditional and ecofriendly. Okay, we're modern-day hippies! :)

We went up to Bar Harbor in Maine at the end of July and it was gorgeous - more beautiful than I can describe. One of our favorite adventures was an early-morning kayaking tour around the islands. Kerry and I are seriously thinking about going back soon!

To add to Shawn's great idea about registering your honeymoon as a gift, check out http://www.myregistry.com/ It will let you create a custom registry so you don't have to have one and store A and one at store B. For example, Kerry and I picked out some places we wanted to go (eating at Cafe This Way) / things we wanted to do on the honeymoon (whale watching) and added them to our registry. Our friends and family had a great time sponsoring some of our activities.

Enjoy!

Thanks so much to everyone (Shawn, Kris, Shannon and Melody) who shared their fabulous ideas! It was all very helpful. With so many great places to go, it can be difficult to pick a honeymoon destination. We were married on August 1 and just returned from our honeymoon last week. Everything went fantastically well! We decided to go to Italy for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing! The history, the culture, the art - couldn't get enough! We stayed in Rome and did a lot/saw a lot in Rome. We also took day trips to Florence and Naples & Pompeii. Incredible and not like anything we have here in America. I highly recommend it! :)
