Making people and ideas findable

Why connect Twitter to Linkedin?
LinkedIn will now allow you to update your status on your LinkedIn profile and then share the message automatically to Twitter. To enable to enable the cross posting feature, you just need to click the new Twitter box under your Network Updates box on the homepage and sync with your Twitter account. The integration works the other way as well. You can also share Tweets to your LinkedIn profile from Twitter or any other client by adding the hashtag “#in” or “li”.

The ability to show your Twitter stream in your LinkedIn profile no doubt provides a compelling social media context to your professional CV. This integration is also reminding people that they need to think before they tweet.

Why connect Linkedin + Twitter?

This integration has been up and running for over a week now. We'd love to hear from SI members who have connected their apps. How's it going so far? What are the benefits? Any negative side effects? Share your thoughts here.

There is this site that actually tracks how much people talk about pooping on twitter. Apparently it does actually happen.

I like the integration so far. I like to selectively update both my facebook and linkedin. I wouldn't post most personal tweets to linkedin, but I like posting tweets that are relevant to my industry/work. Alternatively, I like posting personal twitter updates to my facebook. In a way I think it's kind of a nice little threesome.

I've added the LinkedIn to Twitter app, but not the other way. Not only different venues, but different relationships, different tolerance for conversation. Not that any posts contradict one another, but I'd talk differently to a 65 year old CEO in person (LinkedIn), than I would my fraternity brother (Facebook), than I would a random person from Canada who I happened to run into (Twitter). Also, the one post being visible nature of LinkedIn makes what you say more valuable.

Well said Brian.

LinkedIn vs. Facebook vs. MySpace vs. Twitter
Different relationships engage different conversation engage different tolerance.

I'll ping (ping.fm) a message I want EVERYONE to see, however you have to manage the relationships on a 1 to 1 (you to user group) level. Consistent value is only added when it's engaged.

Amy I must admit while there is already integration such as Twitter & Facebook I think linking every single tweet to your FB status updates kind of defeats the point of FB status updates. Your friends arent and shouldnt be interested in you saying high to some person they have never met. I completely agree with cross posting pertinent info your whole network can use and enjoy but replies and back and forth conversation should be done on the site from where the reply originated. I use http://ping.fm to post to numerous sites, thus I have already been posting "tweets" and Linkedin "status updates" at the same time. As Mike Seidle pointed out certain tweets arent professional and arent meant for Linkedin. Using a #in hashtag is the exact same as going to ping.fm and posting to a certain group. If you setup groups on ping.fm you can post professional business updates and info to only the networks they are meant for. Granted there is still alot of management to visit each site and reply at that site but with email alerts and multiple tabs I think it is the best way to engage your whole network without posting info not intended for a certain type of forum or site. FYI ping.fm just started Ning integration so you are allowed to link 1 Ning site to your ping account. My Ning site is Smaller Indiana.

Haha I love the ping.fm shout out! It's the best tool. But very well said: LinkedIn has a very specific target audience -- it's a business portal, plain and simple. Obviously we all post business related links, thoughts, messages to other networks (Facebook, Twitter) - however the conversations and thoughts you share to your social circle on (Facebook, Twitter) you should never share on LinkedIn.

Private vs. Public. That is the big Twitter vs. Facebook. The private growth isn't happening.

You can also get link tracking on ping.fm :) Before my post even went live I've had nearly 20 hits on the link I posted to my discussion response via ping.fm I must admit ping.fm wasnt some miraculous find by myself. I owe the heads up on all the ping.fm wonderfullness to my biz bro Ryan Cox. Ryan and I should get paid by ping.fm :)
