I have not cut ties with anything because during the "boom" times I saved and cut ties with several irresponsible economic actions that people still hold onto today.

My reserves in my business are tremendous and my personal debt is minimal. I am now going out and buying up things that people are screaming to basically give away. I am investing in hard assets that will make things very nice for me in less then a decade.

I'd guess there's less (relatively) "keep up with the Jones." If I wanted to attract attention and be showy, I'd move to the coasts.

We've been vigilant about turning off lights when not in use and installing a clothesline to save electricity. Ganging up three or four errands for one trip to save gas. Gotten chickens for the cheap and tasty eggs they provide. Sent back the Netflix more frequently to watch more movies. Fixed or re-used things we'd otherwise have thrown away when times were more flush. Vacationed in Southern Indiana this summer after going to Ireland last summer.
