Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Senator Evan Bayh will be returning home next week for the August recess.

I would like to know your answer to the following two questions:
1) IF a town hall meeting can be organized on the Senator's calendar, will you attend? Yes or No
2) We're likely to have little notice to coordinate the event. Will you make it a priority? Yes or No

Thanks all!

I think this is an excellent idea, and that I would definitely try to attend and get others to attend.

However, I don't think it should be one of those disruptive events. It can be organized in such a way that everyone has an opportunity to speak, but no one is allowed to disrupt or derail the discussion.

Well, Evan Bayh won't be there, but Community Health Network will be hosting on online town hall on August 12th - http://www.smallerindiana.com/events/town-hall-community-discussion

Would love to see members of SmallerIndiana in the chat!

1) yes
2) yes

...but he won't like my insistence on limiting government rather than expanding it. Nor will he like my insistence on his reading every bill he votes for, just as I would insist on my lawyer's reading every contract he talked me into signing. (If there's just too much for him to read, perhaps he should do less. In general, the less government does, the better!)

YES and YES!!

I would come, but I am very opposed to this draconian piece of socialism in this health care bill. I would also like to hear about his positions on cap and trade, a new energy policy, and for once I would like to hear him say something substantive about tax reform.

Yes and Yes. I think we all need to know more about proposed changes.

Yes I would love to hear more about the bill, especially since I'm one of those without the luxury of health insurance

I would like to attend also

Sounds great. Yes and Yes. Before anyone attends something of this nature, I recommend reading the bill as it stands now. There is nothing worse than listening to the media hype then trying to speak your mind on the issue--no matter if its Fox News, NBC, etc. They don't present facts. These are the facts. http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_... That's where you can learn about the new taxes and restrictions coming, along with the formation of additional government agencies, and other sorted infringment of rights and freedoms.

Thanx for the link, I've been wanting to read it, but too busy to actually hunt for it. I bow to your service m'lady. BUT, all the detractors surely must know that this won't be the final bill. It is but a single thrust to many a Senate parry. There's the Senate H.E.L.P. Committee, Senate Finance Committee and such bipartisan actors as Wyden-Bennett. We may not all get what we want, but everybody might get a little concession. Everybody but the greedy insurance companies that is. What we'll really need to read and in a hurry, likely will be the synthesized compromise package that Reid will proffer.

Denise,

I agree that all of us should read the bill. (when finalized) Until then, read the one you noted, then:

I would even suggest people read the page by page scare put out by the fright right
I would then suggest you read the page by page rebuttal put out by the fringe left.
Then make up your mind. FYI - I don't like scare tactics and leaps of unsubstantiated rhetoric.

Christopher-you are unfortunately stuck on radio station WIIM-FM. (What is in it for me)

You constantly put up posts-like the one above-the page by page scare put out by the fringe right and then the page by page rebuttal put out by the fringe left. Why is the "fringe right" using scare tactics? You have read my posts-I guess my responses to a government run rationing program for health care are using scare tactics.

Just admit it you do not want to consider any other options other than what you want-which is national health care.

Using words and innuendo like the word scare-do not convince anyone to come with you and to engage you in serious debate.
