Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Has the idea ever been brought up to get a run of Smaller Indiana t-shirts printed? Pat could sell them on the site and donate the proceeds to a local charity or foundation. It would be a great marketing tool as well. We could simply use the smaller indiana logo on the front and put "making people and ideas findable" on the back...or we have enough talented people on SI to have a design contest.

Pat, if you see this, what do you think?

SaucePan Creative is game!......Let us know what the deadline for submission is and we will add our "secret sauce" to a t-shirt!
Attached is a blank template in case anyone wants one (based off of what Will posted earlier).

And, my first stab at a simple design.

I like that! Very simple, but yet it makes people wonder what it is all about and draws them to the site! Nice work Noah!
I call it the "Instant Networking Event in a T-Shirt" ... no way you'll make it through the day wearing this shirt without several people asking you about it. :)
I'm thrilled everyone is excited. Before you guys start cranking out designs, I'd like to get the final word from Pat as to what he would like to do and how he would like to run this. I don't want to run a contest for a official smaller indiana shirt when the site isn't even mine. =)
I'm sure we have more than one person who is familiar with screen printing on Ts on SI. I used to work for a printer and I'm now doing freelance projects with a local decorator. Please forgive me if I'm sounding like a blow hard know it all...just trying to help and think the idea is cool.

You can keep your costs down by printing on one side of the shirt and doing white versus colored Ts, as well as limiting the # of colors in the design. With the colored Ts you are going to need an underlay and that is 1-color before you slap your desired color on (added expense...which may or may not be of concern?)

Unless the main fella has desires to invest in inventory to commit to a specific qty print run...pre-commits might be a good idea. Have a two week window to solicit orders and get your numbers up and the cost down.

The problem is that unless you know exactly how many you are going to print, your cost is variable. You could offer them at a retail price that = 24 piece cost + markup and then if you end up selling a qty into your printer's next pricing tier, your cost will go down marginally.

If I can be of help with pricing/printing, please let me know.
Hey everyone,

I still would like some feedback on which format would be better.

1. Submit designs, SI members vote, 1 winner, we pre-order and then print.

2. Submit designs, if your design reaches X amount of pre-orders, we will print it.

Mike has good points. When doing shirts we need to think of color limitations, screen charges, ink change charges, screen size, screen placement, brand of shirt, etc. etc. Does anyone own a screen printing shop who would like to help???? I have connections with one, but they are in Tennessee. I would rather use an Indiana vendor for obvious reasons.

Here is a sample of what I have gotten done from my buddy in Tennessee. They do great work.

I think it would be nice to have an "official" shirt. That would make it easier to buy a larger quantity of stock and sell them over time. Perhaps if 2 designs were very close in the voting (and with enough committed pre-orders), we could do two designs.

Another idea would be to have a couple companies who "get" the whole SI thing to sponsor the shirts. Perhaps have their logos on the back with the SI design on the front. That helps keep Pat from out of pocket expenses and provides another advertising opportunity for some local companies.
Will,

I have a local vendor(s) I use and pricing is very fair. Also the styles are great. I prefer the American made (sweatshop free tees). We'll talk Friday when we meet up.
Screen print is one of the many things that we do! I think the shirts should be done by a local SI member and want to throw my hat into the ring!!

I have local vendor who is reasonable and does quality work. Shirts could be picked up at their facility. I don't think they charge for screens/setups...either that or it's all inclusive in the price. I'd have to look at my pricing sheet form them.

Standard 6.1oz cotton T...Anvil, Jerzees...can usually buy from printer or through vendor connection.
