Making people and ideas findable

Searching for Remarkable Greenwood Restaurants. Do they exist?

I've been hard-pressed to find anything other than chain restaurants in Greenwood. There must be some remarkable must-haves on the south side. I'm looking for a few hidden (or not so hidden) gems to visit in Greenwood, or the southside in general. What am I missing out on?

If I were a Food Network TV host visitng G-town, where would you send me and why?

Thank you very much!

I just ate at the Greenwood Yat's. It's just as good as the other locations! Kabuto Japanese is also very good.

I should state "Unique to Greenwood". Something I can't find in other areas of the city. Kabuto - I'll have to check that out. Thank you!!!

Joe doesn't spend any time at the Greenwood location so it's not as good as the College Ave. location:)

Yokohama in Old Towne Greenwood comes highly recommended and its neighbor La Trattoria is known for its steaks too. Shallo's is a traditional favorite and good choice over Friday's, O'Charley's et al. Oaken Barrel and Fireside Brewhouse are recommended by Stephanie. El Meson is a good choice for Mexican and Brozzini's New York Pizza is right next door on South Emerson [technically not Greenwood like Shallo's isn't either]. Obama said he liked Four Seasons on South Meridian which is Greek family owned variety restaurant. There's Hal's Fabulous Las Vegas [owned by Hal Yeagy of Slippery Noodle fame]. Thai Spice is great and a coffee shop The Bean Cup are on County Line across from the mall. Let's not forget Applebee's in the mall. ;-) ;-) That's a start, way too many to say why. We could talk it over at The Bean Cup.

Thanks Dick. I'm most familiar w/ Oaken Barrel and Fireside. What about Fujiama on Emerson? Have you been there?

Reply to This

Fujyama is sub-par. Chains usually are.

It's been many years since I've been to Fujiyama. I didn't think it was a chain, but I do recall it being sub-par. But isn't Kabuto a chain?

I'm with Dick: Thai Spice and Bean Cup are my two favorites in the Greenwood area.

Is Bean Cup and actual restaurant or merely a coffee shop?

It's a coffee shop that serves food. I guess that goes to a bigger question: is a coffee shop that serves food still a coffee shop? What makes something a true restaurant?

Reply to This

It is clearly a coffee shop in ambiance. Their menu is bigger than Starbucks which no one would confuse with a restaurant. I would say that its focus is being a coffee shop, which in my mind, makes it a coffee shop even though they have food.
