New Kindergarten Teacher Looking for Help Obtaining Tables!

Hey everyone! I am in need of some help! I am a recent graduate from Butler University and got my dream job teaching kindergarten in Franklin Township (southeast side of Indy). I am in need of tables for my students- we currently have desks which I don't believe is developmentally appropriate for 5 and 6 year olds and does not fit into my philosophy of education. I am looking for some help in obtaining funding for my project... 4 tables will probably cost about $830 (as quoted by donorschoose.org) ... anyone have any great leads in obtaining grants or know of any websites or donors that may be helpful? Thanks and take care!

Marissa,

I don't have an in on the tables, but I taught first grade for many years and have teaching materials you might find useful. Some things I use for tutoring, but others I will never use outside a classroom. Let me know if you are interested.

I can't throw them away. In the hands of an educator, they are like gold treasure...

Cheers,
Elaine

Wow! That would be so wonderful! I would love to take those materials off of your hands, and I can assure I would put them to good use!

Marissa,
I am in Brownsburg. Where are you? Email me with some contact info and we will make some time to get together soon - it's almost time for school to begin!!

My favorite time of year has always been fall with the promise of a new school year. New school supplies, new clothes and shoes, the relief from summer heat and the beauty of the season settling on the trees and plants. What could be any better?? Oh yes, can we forget the change in meals to the comfort of chili and steaming hot soup? Yum.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Elaine

I don't know what kind of desks you have or what your philosophy is, but when I was in kindergarten we pushed 6 desks together 3x2 and "made" tables out of them. Just a thought in case you can't get the funding. Best of luck.

Thanks! I will definitely try that!

Hey Marissa,

Do you have the dimensions of the tables that you're looking for?

Welcome to SI!

As far as dimensions of the tables, I am thinking 4 circular tables 48 Inches in diameter. That fits anywhere from 6-8 small students. Also, the tables should be preschool height or adjustable. I am doing more research and finding less costly options than my original quote on the donorschoose page...

schooloutlet.com has those exact tables I would want for 98 dollars each...

Thanks John!

Hello Marissa,

I know I said the 23rd, but I went through some stuff and pulled out two boxes of files and/or teacher resource books for you. Do you want to meet somewhere sometime sooner for these and then get more later? I know how crazy it gets the weeks before school and for a new teacher it is even worse. This way you would have a little time to sort through, organize, and digest it a bit at a time. Anyway, let me know if you want things in stages - I do have a lot of stuff and I do it in stages...that way it gives me more room to work, too! haha.

Cheers,
Elaine

That is so nice of you! Sure, meeting earlier than the 23rd sounds just fine. What about meeting the beginning of next week, Monday or Tuesday-ish? I work at a summer camp during the afternoon, but would be more than happy to drive out afterwards (I am done at 4:00). Pick a time and place that works for you, I really don't mind driving to Brownsburg, its not that far for me. Let me know! Also, I am starting to plan and really think about my curriculum and how I am teaching things- I am getting really excited!!! Talk to you soon, have a great weekend.

I should be home Monday evening after 6. I will email you my address over the weekend. Maybe by then I will have had some time to pull out some other things as well.

Hello Marissa,

I hope you were able to find something out of all those boxes that will help get you started. I promise to sort through some more and let you know when it is ready for you. Things you don't want or need, take to school, maybe someone there will want them.
