Making people and ideas findable

I monitor these forums regularly, but frankly, as a student taking 21 credit hours this semester and launching an organization on campus, I haven't had much time in the past few months to post here. However, there's a lot of useful knowledge and insight on these forums, and the members here clearly like to share it. That's the whole point, right? So this seemed like the logical place to go when I was trying to come up with some ideas for places we might find speakers that could help the students in our organization.

I'm the President of the Purdue chapter of the American Advertising Federation and we have a very enthusiastic group of students who are looking for advice on developing themselves professionally. We don’t often have classes that teach us the practical, real-life lessons that we need to learn in order to be prepared for the work-place once we graduate, so AAF tries to provide that through speakers and workshops for the students in our organization. We’re trying to come up with some interesting topics and speakers that would be relevant to students majoring in areas such as Advertising, Public Relations, Visual Communication Design, Computer Graphics Technology, Marketing, and things of that nature.

We don’t want to simply tap the same resources that every other group on campus is utilizing… I’d like to bring in some fresh voices and perspectives for our students to learn from. So I’m hoping that maybe the folks here at SI might have some ideas and suggestions of who we might be able to talk to that would be willing to come teach us the stuff we really need to know. So if you have any ideas, or would consider coming to speak to us yourselves, or know somebody who would, or have a suggestion of a topic that you have found that students SHOULD be exposed to before they graduate, but typically aren’t… any direction you could give us would be helpful. Thanks!

(Wasn’t sure where else to put this, so I threw it into the “catch-all” area. Hope this is the right place!)
