Making people and ideas findable

Post who you believe are some of the best designers in the Hoosier State. Web, print, motion, industrial, interior, fashion design...whatever they do, if they're talented & skilled, please tell us about them!

Let's not try to select a single "best" designer (as if such a thing could exist) and avoid ranking and comparing anyone.

I just think it's nice to raise awareness of the real talent in Indiana and help create a clearer picture of the design community in our humble little state.

Ashan, you're not arrogant, you're just not real smart. Your example is a montage. As in you're good at cutting and pasting, oh and running plugins. If you knew how to mask you wouldn't need to include the glowing halos around your cutouts. Even after you were called out on the manip and you edited your post, you still got it wrong. Montages certainly have a place in design, but they are not retouching.

I resent you calling my work "changing the colors of a picure." You obviously don't have any idea what "true retouching" is.

The art of retouching involves manipulating attributes of individual pixels in a manner that is both professionally acceptable and visually pleasing, while maintaining a believability that the subconscious mind will accept. I strive to improve the image, without ruining the story.

A Beautiful example of your work, David. And I am more educated as a result of your answer. It looks as though you rebuilt the bridge of the nose and the eyes pixel by pixel... (left cheekbone, neck, the shading is seemless, perfect, the colors - wow
you seem to have a perfect eye for color...even the pin's color is altered, blacks
blacker, crisp, clear) Remarkable, masterful.
Now that's a knife! I'm sure Ashan would agree.
Bravo!

Thank you Marita, you have a keen eye yourself.

Wow.. looks like I pissed off lot of people in here.. well I admit it my work is not photo retouching to the fullest, but the process does involve certain aspects of retouching. You are correct, it is masked out from the original picture and incorporated with new graphics in a way the subject would look as if its in a different environment afterwards. And its definitely NOT the retouching David is talking about- running bunch of plugins, and jolting with levels and curves and what not.

Also if thats the "I-want-to sound-like-a-smart-ass" definition of retouching you came up with, best of luck to you my friend! And by the way its PERFECT not purfect.... you better go change it before santa comes ;)

I got lost here, strong, direct, simple, refined, simply complex, great eye, humour, contrast.
What can I say? I found much to like at Nikki Sutton's.
Thx Polina

Polina, I had never come across Nikki Sutton before. And that's a shame, because she's very obviously talented. Her interior design work is great and I enjoyed her art direction stuff she's worked on with you. Thanks for sharing! Another hidden gem in Indiana.

I second Polina's vote for Nikki. Residential as well - designer, not decorator.

I have been working with Loree Everette at Phanomen Design for many years and I do believe that she is the very best designer in town. She never ceases to blow my mind with her innovation and expertise. And she really works hard to save her clients money without compromising the design. If you haven't checked out her work then you are missing out. Go to www.phanomen.com.
