At what age are we no longer cool?

It's all in your head. Age is relative. You are old as soon as you think and feel that you are old.

I am 24 and wake up some days feeling frumpy and uncool.

And if you are trying to be cool, you are probably not cool.

Photo is from Flickr. Random guy. Question was inspired by my older sister who was telling me about one of her daughters, who just got her first "real" job post college. Apparently there are a bunch of new grads who like to hang out with each other and avoid the veterans cuz the "old' people just aren't "cool." Makes me laugh. I remember my first job in sales...I learned more riding with the "old" guys than I ever did hanging with youth.

The coolest thing anyone can do, regardless of age is to be calm, relaxed, approachable, and open-minded to sharing ideas and experiences.

And smiling is important.

People who walk around mean-mugging every stranger they see are very uncool.

The first time you see this kid and say or think any phrase that begins with "In my day..."

does back in the day have to refer to something 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 2 years ago...

I personally say "Once upon a time" to express the idea that I'm reaching back to a prior era. "Back in the day" doesn't sound very natural on my lips as I'm a child of the Burbs.

...I have similar difficulties with "y'all" and "UMbrella" (where I'm from, its just umbrella.)

I would just like to point out that he has a tattoo of a rabbit with the sign of the horns as a head. Also, he gets massive hipster points for retro photoshop color affect and at least a couple for black plastic frame glasses and 70's shirt.

I know some folks in their 70's and 80's who are very cool people. They are open to new ideas, ways of approaching the changes in society, are not judgemental, use the internet, cell phones, and can program a DVR. They are not stuck in their ways and are very interesting to talk to because they focus on others and not themselves. Being cool has nothing to do with age and everything to do with how you live your life.

great post Jim, I think I will become uncool when I believe the world, overall was better than the one I live in right. this. second. Although, that sounds like getting old.

I honestly do worry too much about what other people think of me and that may be a driving factor behind my interest in keeping me up-to-date AMONG MY PEERS. However I would look rediculous trying to fit in with my daughter's 12 y/old friends in a conversation about the upcoming Twilight movie.

Imagine 38-y/old me saying "Isn't that movie called 'Twilight 2 Electric Bugaloo'? (reference to 1986's Breakin'2) and they were completely lost.

It should be law that every sequel's title should be followed by electric bugaloo. It might make some producers think twice about releacing Dr. Doolittle 2 Electric Bugaloo.

But I so have to say that Die Hard 2 Electric Bugaloo still would have rocked.
