Social media burnout syndrome is real
We joke about it, but it’s true. We’re overwhelmed by technology which promised to make life better for us. Instead, most of us haven’t figured out how to restore the balance we once had in our lives

StephanSpencer - With the amount of time needed to stay at the top of the game in social media, it is inevitable that you will eventually burn yourself out. No matter how much you enjoy being on these sites, and no matter how good of friendships you have made, after a while it becomes tedious. This happens most often to the users who have been trying to become power users, and it continues to happen to the super stars.

Short answer - no.

Medium answer - everything is a matter of value, literally everything. If someone is getting burned out on social media it's because they're not seeing enough value in it, and that either means they need to leverage it differently or social media simply may not be valuable to them at the present time. I keep finding more value in some aspects of social media, while throwing out the aspects that don't bring any value to the table.

Long answer - sorry, but right now I just don't see enough value in typing out a longer answer :)

I think it is much like regular networking. One has to find what works best for them and how much of it makes sense to the individual and the company. Just to "social network" to be like everyone else and to be on every social network seems very fruitless to me. Also, just like your database, it is not how many followers you have, but how many good prospects are in your database. Somedays it takes only one quality phone call to have a very good day. Somedays it takes many phone calls to add one good prospect to your pool.......applies to social networking. Think smart.

This is a great discussion. I am having fun with social media. It is a great tool for our business. We have been using social media to find new markets...and it has been working better than we expected. We are using social media as an introduction. Once we connect on a social media site, we use email, telephone, and face to face meetings to continue the conversation. Social media is a great foot in the door.

The truth is out! It is a real test and at times frustrating to use "social media". I just try to locate what I have an interest in to keep from being overwhelmed. I am not an expert, just try to do my best to determine what has value.

Social media has forever changed how marketing is "delivered" to consumers. As a consumer, I can get the information I'm interested in more easily, on my own, and unobtrusively. As a business owner, I have to figure out how to deliver marketing messges so that consumers of our services generate interest. I love it. Now if I connect with someone (whether as a consumer or service provider), there is a higher likelihood that a connection will be made.

My family says I am addicted to the internet and I got to thinking about the amount of time I spend on it and I am starting to agree with them.There are so many networks to connect with people but there is no way anyone can keep up with all of it.

It's strange how much social media is a part of nearly everyone's lives now. I have not gone a day without someone around me mentioning Facebook or Twitter. One year ago, it wasn't that way. I think I might keep tally for a week to see how many times I hear people talking about some form of social media. Is there any other topic that is discussed as much?

Exactly, Pat. :) Actually, I have to keep reminding people that Facebook and Twitter exist. Smaller Indiana has totally dwarfed those two!

Funny, I wouldn't say that I am burnt out at all on social media. Will it go away? Probably not. Will it evolve and change? Most definitely. I think that picking and choosing your social media "tools" wisely is the key. I never recommend anyone try to be everywhere all the time. Pick the most useful social media tools for you and your business.
