Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

David Mark

Anyone care to share their feelings about the new SI blog "system"?

For starters, I've enjoyed Smaller Indiana from the first moment I enrolled. I've met some of my best friends here and because SI exists (Thank you Pat!), my journey has increasingly become exciting, inspiring and spiritually fulfilling. However, I'll admit my participation has waned lately . Why? Could it could be SI growing pains (more rules, more noise)? Could it be growing too big for me(Smaller? Indiana)? Could it be SI is losing what made it originally attractive to me (Hear AND be heard)? Obviously, I'm still here and I'm not disappearing too soon and still enjoy most of this platform.

I get with growth comes some necessary change, but some change just plain sucks and makes NO sense. Based on recent feedback from some of SI's more influential contributors, I know I'm not alone with my opinion. What gives with the new blog system? Is there a panel who "votes" on what is deemed front page material? Is it a buddy system that's taking place here? Whatever it is, it needs to change - soon! SI's brand loyalty is in danger of losing daily contribution from some original greats - the people who have helped build what it is today.

I'd post a blog instead, but I'm not confident it would be posted. Thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to your feedback.

@Becky - There's a yogurt place popping up next to the Monon Coffee shop. I'm not sure it's open yet. Honestly, I can't believe there's not an obvious choice in Ripple for ice cream. It's the perfect area for one.

I can't believe I just spent 10 minutes reading this reality tv saga! Surely, I have better things to do? I love how hoosiers are so polite. Living in Philly and Chicago for years exposed me to people like Michael. Give him what he wants- a good fight. Enough of the ... I am sorry for hurting your feelings blah blah blah. If your going to make it on a reality show you need more drama!

Ummm... I hate to break it to you, Tom, but this isn't reality TV. And yes, Hoosiers are indeed polite. That's one of the things this transplant loves about this state. I came from Washington, DC. You don't know rude until you've been there. We don't need to "give Michael a good fight". We have a professional and civil (most of the time) decorum on SI, and we know that part of building relationships - which is what networking is all about - is also admitting when you were wrong or when you offended someone, asking for as well as receiving forgiveness. We've had drama on SI before, and believe me, it served no one well. If anything, it probably alienated some folks. If you want drama and reality TV, I recommend watching Survivor or the Amazing Race and ignoring SI altogether. Especially if you don't want to waste another 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious, but, by all means, continue the thrashings. I'm enjoying them.

Part of me was being facetious too but another part wasn't. Believe it or not, I wanted to make sure he wasn't bashing YOU for your opposite opinion from the rest of us. :-)

I am not bashing him at all- not that he probably needs any help defending himself. I appreciate his candor. That is what I like about Philadelphians and Chicagoans; what you see is what you get. I am a hoosier and appreciate hoosiers, but I also appreciate that east coast "edge". Finding the balance is the hard part. However, it the extremes that make for great reality tv like Trump's show- Your Fired (or whatever it is called), not Amazing Race.
