Making people and ideas findable

I would be interested in knowing what each of you are currently using to "snag" that job? Are you premeditating for a job, do you know which companies you a job with? Are you shot gunning it on Ineed or Monster? What about going straight to the recruiters? Are you using a blog or web page?

I am using everything I come across that seems feasible to "snag" my ideal job.
The rest of my answers are as follows:
yes
yes, I have a specific company in mind
not so much
I am trying to get an appointment with Safari Solutions (Allison Witmeier and/or Ann Clifford--www.safarisolutions.com)
no and

I hope this helps!

When I was job hunting, I used www.Indeed.com quite a bit. It's a job search engine that has the same look and feel as Google. They even did the same thing: type in your keywords, specify your desired area (use the Advanced Search features!), and hit search. It indexes all the job search sites and even some of the big corporate sites like Lilly, et. al. They caught many things that didn't appear in Monster and CareerBuilder, but also picked up those sites as well.

Erik is right, Brandon. www.indeed.com is a fabulous interface. It even allows you to set up email alerts based on personalized search criteria.

You may also want to check out the Classifieds on Linked In and Craig's List. Since these sites allow free postings, some companies will use them first to test the water, before they spend the money on Monster, Career Builder, or Dice, etc. Good Luck!

Hey Erik, I wanted to thank you for the indeed.com link. I had never heard of this site - it's fantastic! I found several great leads right off the bat. Thanks for posting it!

I'm not actively looking for a job at the moment, but my daughter is. In addition to the sites mentioned previously, she has had some good luck networking on LinkedIn. (You can see my latest blog entry for more info. It's helped her to network and find local contacts. She has indicated on her profile that she is actively looking for a job and as a result was contacted by several head hunters. Good luck with your search!

Networking is the key, however you really need to be focused on who you are and what you want. I attend Job Club at Work One in Fishers (Lantern Road between 96th and 106th). They offer numerous workshops and seminars as well as Job Club, a weekly round table discussion.
There are several other groups that meet in local churches.

Get a game plan.
Don't be afraid to let everyone you know that you are actively searching (that inludes the janitor where your kids to to school and teh cashier at Kroger. Everybody knows somebody else.

Thx much for the advice, everyone. Today is when I "truly" start hitting the bricks toward a new job, and every bit of info and input helps. Lee

I was downsized on 9/12...I'm using SI to make connections, LinkedIN, former clients, friends, parents of the kids I coach etc. I browse the Monster and Career Builder stuff but I know that I'm just a number with those submissions. Indeed.com is cool because it does pick up stuff directly from company websites. There are lots of business owners here on SI as well as a few recruiters....
